Yan'an Period Intellectuals With The Popularization Of Marxism

Marxism, based on practice, is a unity with the features of science, revolutionary and value. Furthermore, in relative to the specific context of China, it is also manifested to be general, exogenous and abstruse, therefore, it is the nature of Marxism to realize the popularization. The popularization of Contemporary Chinese Marxism means to make the basic principles of Marxism, Mao Zedong Thought and the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics to be grasped by the masses by making it concrete, simple and popular, and combining Marxism with the current practical needs of China. Only in this way can the masses identify Marxism and internalize it as their value orientation and ideological weapons and spiritual supports of the masses to understand and transform the world. The levels of performing it include the popularization of the texts and methods, internalization and externalization of the value of Marxism.During Yan'an period, due to enough attention and effort, combined with a strong sense to be the frontier of historical missions, by comparison of KMT's and CPC's policies and attitudes towards them, the intellectuals accepted the CPC and its belief in Marxism. Many groups of intellectuals gradually formed in the fields of philosophy, political economy, scientific socialism, history, literature, as well as translation and news publishing of Marxism. Thus, Marxism achieved great development in this period, and the popularization of Marxism can also be very successfully promoted. These valuable theoretical and practical experiences should be drawn on by the contemporary intellectuals to promote the popularization of contemporary Chinese Marxism by integrating and guiding the ideological construction, and to enhance the cohesion of the masses of the socialism with Chinese characteristics.During Yan'an period, it is very urgent for the intellectuals to promote the popularization of Marxism. The first one is to guide Chinese people's Anti-Japanese War with Marxism; The second one is to arm the increasing cadres and intellectuals with Marxism; The third one is to consolidate the bases and enhance the abilities of governing; The fourth one is to promote the new Enlightenment and the cultural construction; The fifth one is to criticize the dogmatism and remote the hazards of it. Of course, at that time, there were many relatively favorable conditions for the intellectuals to promote the popularization of Marxism. They are mainly that the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region base was in under a relatively stable environment and a more harmonious social atmosphere. Moreover, the relative improvement of the education and promotion environment for the intellectuals was a base to promote the popularization of Marxism.Because of importance and favorable conditions, during Yan'an period, the group of intellectuals, as well as between groups of the CPC's leaders and the intellectuals, worked together to carry out the academic research activities and implement the education route which is combined theory with practice. The intellectuals also supplied on-the-job-cadres with education of Marxism and emphasized literacy education and common education for the masses. At the same time, they also focused on the news publishing industry to promote propaganda of Marxism, or on a combination of the mass organizations and art groups to promote the popularization of Marxism.At that time, the popularization of Marxism achieved so much success. There is one more group of intellectuals who are worth mentioning and learning by the contemporary intellectuals. That is, the whole China was then divided into several major areas because of war, namely, the enemy's rear area bases with Yan'an as its centre, the areas with Chongqing as the center controlled by KMT, the eastern areas occupied by Japanese and the areas of Guangdong and Hong Kong. Moreover, the intellectuals, led by CPC, in these major areas always echoed and interacted positively to promote the popularization of Marxism, including the ones acting in the areas occupied by KMT or Japanese, non-party intellectuals, as well as the progressive foreign intellectual groups.The intellectuals in these major fields played a great historical role in promoting the popularization of Marxism. First of all, they helped CPC gain the victory of breaking through the news-blockade at home and abroad. Second, they boosted the localizing of Marxism and popularization of Mao Zedong Thought, and thus they achieved the popularization of Marxism in a wider range. Third, their achievements promoted a nationwide anti-Japanese activities and the development of Chinese revolution, and also they expanded the influence of Marxism and promoted the victory of the liberation war, and also laid the foundation for establishing the mainstream ideology of Marxism after PRC was founded.From the analysis above, we can see that, during Yan'an period, the intellectuals accumulated rich historical experience in promoting the popularization of Marxism. Firstly, it's an important premise for the intellectuals to train their qualities of the popularization of Marxism. Secondly, the groups between the intellectuals and the leaders of CPC work together to boost the popularization of Marxism. Thirdly, the intellectuals must pay attention to building ideological fronts and team for the popularization of Marxism, focusing on the actual dissemination of Marxism in practice consciously. Fourthly, the form of rectification movement is the boosters for the popularization of Marxism. The last one, the intellectuals must pay attention to the power of interactions from different areas to promote the popularization of Marxism.Due to the popularization of Marxism in contemporary China faces serious challenges both in ideology and in practice, the contemporary intellectuals must firstly take on the heavy responsibilities to promote the popularization of Marxism. So they must be true believers, learners, supporters and actors of the Socialism with Chinese Characteristics. Second, the intellectuals must recognize the urgency of their own transformation, that is, they must focus on being the intellectuals with "three principles of being-closed-to-the-practice", combining the academic research with practice, academic research with theoretical propaganda. Third, facing the challenges of non-Marxist ideological trends and the anti-Marxism ideological trends at home and abroad, and as well as the cultural globalization and differentiation, the contemporary intellectuals must strengthen the team-building and position-building to promote the popularization of Marxism in contemporary China, and strengthen the construction of the ideological mainstream of Marxism in order to lead other social ideological trends. Fourth, the intellectuals must promote localizing, synchronizing and popularizing Marxism with our times in a collaborative manner. Localizing Marxism is the core, synchronizing Marxism with our times is the key, and popularizing Marxism is the base.
