Study On Irish Artist Jack B. Yeats

Jack B.Yeats is the Irish premier painter and outstanding artist of the 20^th Century.As the Irish Rose,he has always been highly regarded in Ireland,but his work is insufficiently known abroad.Based on Yeats' life experience and art creation,this dissertation mainly analyzes the development of his painting,the characteristics of his art,the artistic thought and his unique aesthetic idea: "poetic expression in painting".The dissertation deeply studies Yeats' art on four aspects.Yeats' art development,native Irish culture and the important historical period are closely related to each other.Therefore,the first part of the paper analyzes the cultural relationship between Yeats and Celtic from the perspective of Irish historical culture.The second part analyzes the commonness and difference between Yeats' paintings and other painters relating to the main European and American art movements in the 20^th Century.The third part,from the aspects of professional skill and cultural background,focuses on analyzing the development of Yeats' art creation and artistic achievements,especially his unique painting languages in his late years.Yeats' poetic paintings brought visual innovation into Irish art since the 20^th Century,and directed Irish nationality and reality into lyrical, romantic and symbolic aesthetic world.The fourth part,from the psychological, aesthetic and literary aspects,further analyzes the unique artistic pursuit and aesthetic ideal as "half-memory","assembles memory",and "all painting to be painting must be poetry" in Yeats' paintings.Different from western modernistic painters of the 20^th Century,Yeats' unique artistic pursuit to "poetic expression in painting" is very similar to the aesthetic idea of "common origin of poetry and painting" in traditional Chinese culture.Therefore,the study on Irish artist Yeats is of some inspiration and referential value on issues as how contemporary Chinese oil painting inherit and push forward traditional culture.
