The dissertation consists of introduction, writing background and circulation of "the five legends", the comparison between "five legends" and "shuo tang quan zhuan ", the speciality of the legend of Chiang, the national and cultural inside information of "the five legends" and conclusion. In the introduction, I discuss the value and magnificence of the selected theme, the academic study situation , the theoretical evidence and study methods concerning the proposition. The full-length novel "five legends " describes the prosper and decline of Tang dynasty in the Central Plains. It contains five separate stories: the story of the Sadness and Happiness, the Happy Family, the legend of Shang Yao, the legend of Qi Pi and the legend of Chiang. ''Five legends " is very popular with the Mongolians, especially with the storytelling artistes. It spreads abroad in the'form of storytelling and balladsinging and manuscript in the east area of the Mongols. It holds a prominent position in history of the development of Mongolian storytelling and balladsinging art. So it has academic value of the study on Mongolian written literature, folklore and the relation between Mongolian and Han literature.Influence study is a traditional method, so far it is in common use in the field of the research of the Comparative literature in China. In thedissertation, I adopt the approach to making textual criticism of the influence study of the comparative literature, and demonstrate the relation between Han culture and "five legends " and its characteristics. I also use the theories and study methods of the folklore, cultural anthropology, aesthetics and so forth in order to prove the following problems:1 .To expound the writing background of the "Five legends "2.To clarify the relation between the former four legends and "the legend of Chiang"3.To explore the relation between "the five legends" and Han culture in Central Plains4.To search the inside information of "the Five legends" in many points of view5.To survey the culture and cultural value of the "Five legends" and try to raise its research to a new level on the basis of the achievement of the former researchersChapter one is about the writing background and the circulation situation of "the Five legends ". I attach more importance to analyzing the influences of Han culture and the characteristics of regional culture brought about by the blend of Mongolian and Han culture.Chapter two analyzes the relation between figures, similar images of the figures, imitation and development of the plots in the "the Five legends " and "shuo tang quan zhuan " by comparison. Then I argue thatthe images of the figures and the arrangement of the plots in Mongolian novel— "Five legends " are greatly influenced by Han novel— "shuo tang quan zhuan " in Central Plains.Chapter three focuses on the characteristics of"the legend of Chiang". In the first section, I analyze the plots, the relation between figures and the writing characteristics in the former four legends and "the legend of Chiang" by comparison. According to these analyses, "the legend of Chiang" was written under the circumstances of the broad circulation and popularity of the former four legends. In the second section, I compare "The legend of Chiang" with the Han erotic novels.Chapter four mainly discusses the inside information of " the five legends " and demonstrate that it took Mongolian culture as its inside information and absorbed lots of literary works of Han culture. According to these cultural characteristics of" the five legends ", it was written by the Mongolian writers and a fruit of the blend of Mongolian and Han culture. In the conclusion, I describe the value of "the five legends ". It occupies an important position in Mongolian literary history and history of the relation between Mongolian and Han literature, especially in history of Mongolian folklore. "The five legends "promoted the art of the storytelling and balladsinging and cultivated lots of artistes. Finally I ascertain the following problems on the basis of the studydone by former researchers.1. "The five legends" is a fruit of the interaction between Mongolian and Han culture, it was directly influenced by Han novel— "Shuo Tang quan zhuan", which spreads in the form of the storytelling and balladsinging in Mongolian areas.2. The author of the former four legends and "the legend of Chiang" is not the same person. "The legend of Chiang" was written after the former four legends, it drew a lot from Han erotic novel "Xi Xiang Ji" and detective novel "Shi Gong An", such as the images of the figures, plots and so on.There are three new arguments:1 "The five legends " indirectly drew on " "Shuo Tang quan zhuan "2 "The legend of Chiang" directly drew on the erotic novel "Xi Xiang Ji" and detective novel "Shi Gong An"3."The five legends" was written in the influence of the art of Mongolian storytelling and balladsinging and describes the story of Tang dynasty. We can see Mongolian traditional culture such as the epic tradition, heroes worship and ancestry worship in the plots and images of the figures in "the five legends "...
