| At present, the study on the relationship of Han and Tibet in the period of Republic of China in the domestic and international academic circles mainly stresses on the evolution in political relation and the crucial factors. Scholars want to seek the historical explanations on the course of the relationship of Han and Tibet by analyzing the important events and figures. However, they seldom gave attention to the research in the cultural area. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the connotation of the cultural exchange between Han and Tibet in the period of Republic of China by combing the historical clue from the perspective of macroscopic history. In the period of Republic of China, the Han national Buddhism revived gradually. Meanwhile, the cultural exchange between Tibetan Buddhism and Han national Buddhism developed greatly. Although the historical course of the Buddhism cultural exchange does not coincide with the political linearity development, it's worth researching the social function of the cultural exchange. In this thesis, the author analyzes the cultural exchange between the Han and Tibetan Buddhism and wants to give a thorough and comprehensive explanation of the activities. Then more attention to the way of cultural exchange would be found by the circles of Han and Tibetan Buddhism depending upon their social classes in the special period. Their initiative andprincipal influence played an important role in communication and development of national culture. The objective existence which does not contradict with the political relationship in the process of cultural exchange is also analyzed in the article. On the contrary, the historical selection reflects the combination of the social status and the policies. The historical role and the motive force of the group which imbued in the process should be made clear.In the discussion, it is focused on the character and the significance of the cultural exchange from the historical perspective. Case-study is also used to recognize the multi-channel, multi-dimensions, and continual historical picture to explain the origin, the way and the character of the process. The whole article is divided into four parts.In the first part, the standpoint and the anticipated target of this article are illustrated by the present research development and situation in the academic circles. The author expects more experts to pay closer attention to the study on other cultural domain between Han and Tibet. Further, a systematic research on it could be finished. The history of the cultural exchange between Han and Tibet in the period of the Republic of China would be reappeared.In the second part, the history of the cultural exchange between Han and Tibet is retraced based on history, from the Tang Dynasty which is the beginning of the cultural exchange, and the Yuan, Ming, and QingDynasties when the domain, the content and the way are continuously developed, to the end of the Qing when the cultural exchange appeared slowly. Thus, the historical containing of the Buddhism in the cultural development between Han and Tibet could also be retraced.In the third part, the historical connotation of cultural exchange between Han and Tibetan Buddhist circles in the period of the Republic of China is discussed in depth. It is the foundation of this article's analysis and research. The regulations are analyzed on regarding the management of temple, subsidizing the Han and Tibet Buddhism to study in, giving political space and opportunity of the inland Tibetan Buddhism. In this period, the Buddhism cultural exchange is related to politics. The objective historical fact of the cultural exchange is taken as the research basis. The renowned eminent monk and the religious group would be brought in as cases. The localization analysis is adopted to recognize the activity of the principal in the cultural exchange. Meanwhile, the activity of the Tibetan Buddhism eminent monk in inland is narrated in this part. The Chinese Buddhist priest's going pilgrimage and translating the writings are introduced. Finally, Han-Tibetan Buddhist Teaching College, the most important organization in the cultural exchange in the period of Republic of China, would be described in this part.In the fourth part, the intrinsic tension and the historical role of the cultural exchange in the Han-Tibetan Buddhist circles is introspected. Thecultural exchange in the Han-Tibetan Buddhist circles promoted the development of the relationship between Han and Tibet in the period of the Republic of China. Because of the weak political relation and the government policy, common factor between the bilateral cultures was being explored in the important content of Han and Tibet. Moreover, the historical understanding and the judgment of the Buddhist circles has been confirmed. Recalling the history helps us to view and consider the past in depth. |
