Xing Suzhi And The Han-tibetan Cultural Exchange In The Republic Of China Period

During the period of the Republic of China,Tibet was interfered by imperialist forces,resulting in a complicated situation and a tortuous development of the relationship between the local government of Tibet and the central government.Under this background,a group of eminent monks gained the trust and respect of the upper classes of the Tibetan local government by virtue of their special religious status and became envoys of the Han and Tibetan relations.Among them,Xing Suzhi was an outstanding representative of the Han monks who went to Tibet to seek Dharma during the period of the Republic of China.He went to the Tibet,learned Tibetan religion and earned Laranbagsi,carefully surveying the situation in Tibet and social reality of religion and politics emerged.Then he obtained the trust and support from the local government officials in Tibet,to created favorable conditions of the cultural exchange between Han and Tibetan.After resuming secular life and returning to the mainland,he made suggestions for the adjustment and implementation of the Tibetan policy of the Republican government,attracting attention and reuse.Subsequently,Xing Suzhi was appointed by the Republican government to return to Tibet again and served as the principal of Lhasa Primary School,making important contributions to the revitalization of modern basic education in Tibet.During his twice visits to Tibet,Xing Suzhi,with his own efforts and influence,played a special role in building a bridge of communication between the Han and Tibetan cultures and between the government of the Republic of China and the local government of Tibet.
