Admonitions for the Buddhist Monastery edited in the Song Dynasty,including the abundent religious and thinking value,has an important role in the history of the Chinese Zen .However,it is ignored for a long time by the academic circles,which is not worthy of its factual historical role and particular thinking significance.In a way,if we pay little attention to Admonitions for the Buddhist Monastery,the Zen in the Song Dynasty can not be evaluated objectively and completely.In view of this situation,my Dissertation chooses Admonitions for the Buddhist Monastery as a research problem,and try to do a complete and deep research on it .It is of importance to dislose the thinking connotations,historical meaning and modern significance in the field of the Zen researchChapter I analyses that Admonitions for the Buddhist Monastery is the result of development of the Chinese Zen.The fantasticism and the moral corruption ,such as no-practising dhyana ,religious disciplines and morals ,prevailed among the Buddhist temples in the Dynasty Song.Moreover,the Zen in the Song Dynasty met with the exterior challenge from reviving Confuciansim.Under the background of the above, Admonitions for the Buddhist Monastery came into being.Chapter one drew a conclusion from the examination of predigree,that Admonitions for the Buddhist Monastery rightly reflected the prevailing and declining situation of the Zen in the Song Dynasty. In addition this chapter analyses in detail five kinds of ancient annotation and a kind of modern annotation.Chapter II discloses its critical ideas about the maladies of the Zen. This chapter not only analyses its moral criticism of the Zen daily deposing and dropping,but also a theoretical reason that leads to the corruption such as considering decay as moratliy. Admonitions for the Buddhist monastery criticised the popular Letters Chan according to No-setting up scriptures.This chapter considers the above rescumes purity and simplicity of the Chan sect.
