In the studies of the history of regional economy, the research on the Shandong's business of salt is a field which is less or unsubstantially studied. However, it is obviously an indispensable part in the studies of the history of the Chinese salt business. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, many materials on the salt business have been maintained, which can be found in three main sorts of books. The first one is the special books on the salt business, such as Shandong's Records about the Laws of the Salt Business written by Zha Zhilong and supplied by Xu Lin, edited in years of Wan Li; Shandong's Records about the Laws of the Salt Business written by Mang Huli, edited in years of Yong Zheng; Shandong's Records about the Laws of the Salt Business written by Chong Fu and Song Xiang, edited in years of Jia Jing; Shandong's Additional Records and Memorandum on the Laws of the Salt Business written by En Ci, edited in years of Tong Zhi. Others are historical documents as follows: the Records about Salt Policy written by Zhu Tingli, editied in years of Jia Jing; a brief Introduction of the Salt Business Today and Yesterday, written by Wang Keyu of Ming Dynasty; a brief Introduction and Discussion on the Laws of Salt and Shandong's salt business stuff, written by Wang Shouji, edited in years of Tong Zhi; A General Records about the Laws of Salt, written by Zhou Qingyun at the Republic of China era; the Records about Laws of Salt of the Qing Dynasty, written by Zhang Maojiong . The second one is some historical books which were officially edited, such as the History of Ming Dynasty, the Collected Allusions of Ming Dynasty, the History of Qing Dynasty, the Collected Allusions of Qing Dynasty, and some archives or memorial to the thrones, such as the memoir of Ming Dynasty ,the memoir of Qing Dynasty and so on. The third one is the chorographies which were edited during the period of Ming and Qing Dynasties to the period of the Republic of China era, including the Shandong's general chorography and specific chorographies about the Fu, State, County and Wei.
