A Study On The Query And Textual Criticism Of The Cognition And Concepts Proposed By The Traditional Science Of Calligraphy In Its Corresponding Research In The 20～(th)-Century Science Of Chinese Calligraphy

In the past 20^th-century, many calligraphers and scholars had been engaged in the query and textual criticism of the cognition and concepts proposed by the traditional science of calligraphy. It is of vital importance. However, it is ignored by the circle of Chinese Calligraphic studies. Thus, my dissertation attempts to give a study of the background, social conditions, major objects, historical significance and the enlightenment to contemporary studies of the above-mentioned query and criticism.On the one hand, the 20^th-century query and textual criticism is based on the authenticity and fakeness in the science of traditional calligraphy and follows its research approaches and its spirit of doubt and criticism. On the other hand, it is more relied on the enlightenment and impetus given by new thought and new discipline in the 20^th-century China. Especially the change of the historical circle, the development of archaeology and the introduction of natural science from the West have more direct connection with the query and criticism. During this period, the query and criticism has specific objects rather than the simple continuousness of the past. It includes the authenticity & falseness and the age of ancient calligraphic documents and works as well, the origin and development of calligraphic styles.The 20^th-century query and textual criticism enlightens the then thought and deepens the then academic studies. Furthermore, it promotes the present and future development of the science of calligraphy and its disciplinary construction. More thinking domains and development space can be opened up through the emphasis on the dialogues between calligraphy & other disciplines, reflections on the inner and outer problems of calligraphy through interdisciplinary horizons.
