News Writing Research

Narration is a basic speech act upon which people tell and retell their experience. News narration is one important kind of narration with a particular purpose and convention. Based on the methodology and the theory of narration, this dissertation analyzes the procedure of news narration, its organization to reflect the features of news narration, especially the features in terms of style. The dissertation tries to provide a new perspective on newspaper stylistics through the analysis to the news narration.The first chapter is an introduction of the dissertation to emphasize the significance of the study and point out the basic methodology of it.The second chapter discusses the belonging and position of news narration. Timeliness is the criterion to differentiate narration from the non-narration. From the perspectives of narration, news writings are one component of the narration.The third chapter analyzes the timeliness of news writings, its narrative models and narrative rhythm.The fourth part describes and analyzes the development style of the news writings, which are developed in time frames, source frames and some others. This part also gives a prototype of news writing development.The fifth chapter discusses the evolution of news style. In terms of narration, news writing and literature writing are mutually influenced and interacted in the long history of both of them.The last part summarizes the merits and demerits of the dissertation and points out the trend of future study.
