This dissertation, entitled "The Circle of poets of LuoYang from the Early Year of DaHe to the Early Year of DaZhong(829~848)-Taking the Elderly Bai Ju-yi as the centre" studies the forming and activities of the circle of poets of LuoYang from the emperor WenZong and WuZong to XuanZong.lt discusses the relations between the four important figures(Pei Du,Niu Seng-ru,Li De-yu and Bai Ju-yi)and LuoYang, including the reason that they live in LuoYang, their activities, creation of poetry, ideas and mentaliry,in order to find out the particularity of this circle and the political, historical, cultural roots and connotation of it in the twenty years of Late Tang. The phenomenon reflects the changes in the ideas of the scholar-officials in Late Tang, such as the loss of enthusiasm for politics, the longing for withdrawing from society and the seeeking for enjoyable interest.Beneath the surface of a leisurely and comfortable life, they are closely related with the conflict between the political factions of Niu and Li,which subtly shadowed their heart. The forming of the group is related with the system of officials, and a leisurely, placid custom and tradition of gardens in the City of LuoYang. The phenomenon of this circle of poets in Late Tang,a part of the whole history of Tang poetry,is the result of combining the politics, times and culture, and influences the poets of the Northern Song Dynasty.
