Research On Sun Guangxian And His Bei Meng Suo Yan

This thesis does a comprehensive research on the famous writer Sun Guangxian and his literary sketches "Bei Meng Suo Yan" for the first time. The thesis is composed of text and appendix.The text is divided into four chapters. Chapter one examines and discriminates detailedly about the life story, formal making friends and writings of Sun Guangxian, correcting some wrong statements which followed for thousands years and still have an influence today. The chapter two to chapter four put emphasis on Bei Meng Suo Yan. Chapter two cards the original literature of Bei Meng Suo Yan according to the historical records of Tang dynasty and the period of five dynasties, literary sketches of five dynasties, and personal experience of Sun Guangxian. It also explains the reason that its reliability surpasses that of the other literary sketches of its time. Chapter three introduces the influence of Bei Meng Suo Yan on science of history , literature and modern scholars and explains its value of collating. Chapter four probes into its value of historical materials from the deeds of the monarch and his subjects, the anecdote of literary arena and the state of mind of the scholar who fail in the mperial examination.The appendix is divids into two parts. The first part emends the defects of Bei Meng Suo Yan which appeared in the course of spread. The second part collects some lost articals of Bei Meng Suo Yan.
