The Research On Bamboo Slips Characters Of The Han Dynasty Of Northwest Garrison

The two Han Dynasties is the critical period in history of the development of script,which forms a connecting link between Qin Dynasty and Wei and Jin dynasties, having finished the Li script evolution, and entered into the present characters at that time.The two Han Dynasties plays a special role in history of the development of Script.Inscriptions and bamboo slips or silk literature are the main remains of the two Han Dynasties calligraphy. Compared with inscriptions,Bamboo slips and silk literature was popular in all classes of society because of its convenient materials,making, writing,and carrying. So Bamboo slips and silk literature connects with the social closely, reflecting people's needs to the characters and its using at that time. Bamboo slips characters of the Han Dynasties of Northwest Garrison has been the excellent materials for studying the script of the Han Dynasties, for its extended span of time, numerous, scripteur from diverse cultures.In order to explaining the true face of current script, and researching into its role in history of Chinese character, the paper studied the Bamboo slips characters of the Han Dynasties of Northwest Garrison from the point of characters noumenon, synthetically using the theory of Chinese philology, style philology, typeface philology, thus providing material and theory for Era Division of Chinese character.According to the puplished original edition and annotations,We first made the writing-shape table of Bamboo slips characters of the Han Dynasties of Northwest Garrison. Based on this,we have collected representative styles of Li script and Cao shu,analysed the structural types,and made the structural types table of Bamboo slips characters of the Han Dynasties of Northwest Garrison. There are six charpters in this paper. Charpter one is an introduction. Bamboo slips characters of the Han Dynasty of Northwest Garrison and other Han Dynasties bamboo and wooden slips excavated for hundreds of year are outlined in this charpter.This paper makes a thorough review of current research situation and summarizes the significance of choosing this topic, further introduces the research frame and methods applicated in this dissertation.Charpter two:research on the type of Bamboo slips characters of the Han Dynasty of Northwest Garrison. According to the calendar Bamboo Slips and related data unearthed, we made a specific research on the type. The origin, development, and maturation time of the major type (Li script) and auxiliary type(Cao shu) have been clarified. We also mentioned the running-hand and regular script which were outgrowth of the process of Li script.We think that there have been Li Script, regular,seal character, cursivehand styles in the West Han Dynasty. Moreover some styles of writing and forms of running-hand also bred in them. In the middle of the West Han Dynasty, Li script had reached maturity, and increasingly become the current main handwriting; Cursivehand styles had been getting more maturer In the middle and late West Han Dynasty. That provide foundation for clearing the sources and evolution dispute of all kinds of characters in the history of Chinese characters.Charpter three:research on the structure of Bamboo slips characters of the Han Dynasty of Northwest Garrison. We have made a specific research on the structure on the basis of the former research. Combining traditional Chinese character structural theory with modern configuration theory, we have made a synchronic and historical investigation on 1712 individual characters and pointed out that except 7 uncertain structural characters the pictographic structure shares 7.05%, indicative structure takes up 4.35%,associative structure is 24.70%, phonetic structure is 63.51% in those characters.Charpter four:research on the variant forms of Bamboo slips characters of the Han Dynasty of Northwest Garrison. Applying configuration theory of Chinese character,the charpter makes a specific research on the variant forms. We made a thorough and systematic investigation on the basic outlook, the type, form source, development regularity, and fromation reason of the variant forms of Bamboo slips character. By studying these variant forms,we have found they have complicated sources, with ancient writing, abbreviation,mix,complication,variation, symbolization and classification. In the complicated sources,compared with the password the condition of words using has great difference,i.e. abbreviation, variation,confusing.But there is no change in the nature of Chinese characters, its form shows apparent regularity and systematization.Charpter five:research on the configuration of Bamboo slips characters of the Han Dynasty of Northwest Garrison. We have found the writing exhibits strong configurational characteristics,which include:(1) stroke is liner with a multitude styles, Li script as main, cursivehand as auxiliary; (2) standard and variant form exist simultaneously, but variant forms is predominant with a large number;(3) the number of simplified Chinese is very large, cursivehand is the main simplification method; (4) in the process of configuration simplification,Chong wen and words-character appeared in order to pretty up inscribtion and write conveniently.Charpter six:position of Bamboo slips characters of the Han Dynasty of Northwest Garrison. In history of the development of Chinese characters. Bamboo slips characters is described in location from the angle of historical development.The paper indicates that writing system have the distinct epoch characteristic for the confused handwriting from different writers.The features confirm its important status in history of the development of chinese characters.For the first time, the paper made an overall and systematic research on the Bamboo slips characters of Garrison excavated from Northwest China,and discussed its fonts,structural characteristics,mainly studied the variant forms. The configuration characteristic of the written character is summarized. This paper points out that Bamboo slips characters forms a connecting link between ancient language of Pre-Qin,Li script of Qin and Han Dynasties and the running-hand, cursivehand,regular script of Cao and Wei dynasties.Which is an important step in the process of development and improvement of Chinese characters form. The results provides an important reference value for studying the script of Pre-Qin and two Han Dynasties, Wei,Jin,and North and South dynasties.
