As one of the Fujian original culture places and the cradle of Minyue culture, North Fujian enjoyed a reputation as one of the emerging places of Confucianism, neo-Confucianism and Taoism in ancient time. North Fujian has a special status in Chinese history for its gathering of talents, flourishing culture and developing imperial examination with profound cultural heritages for thousands of years. This is not only closely related to its predominant geological location, rich and popular social economy as well as humanity environment such as upholding culture and vitalizing education, but also the education which has been paid great attention to in this region. It is also mentionable that from the Song Dynasty, especially from the Ming and Qing dynasties, the historical inheritance elements of family education have been very well carried on from generation to generation. In this respect, this paper regards the family education in North Fujian as an entry point, adopting local genealogy, chorography and literary history materials and utilizing literature method, analytical method and field study method to make an on-spot investigation on ten ancient towns in North Fujian preserved by the state and province. From a macroscopically perspective on the family education in North Fujian in Ming and Qing Dynasties, taking the factors into consideration such as the kindred school running, family instruction culture, ancient buildings, inscriptions, biographies of genealogy, ethnic culture, folk culture, etc., the study explores the relationship between the factors mentioned above and the family education in North Fujian and state the characteristics, status and consequence of the family education in North Fujian so as to systematically master and heckle historical inheritance condition of family education in North Fujian as a whole.we should distinguish between the good and the bad, advantages and disadvantages from the experience of the traditional family education, to take the essence and discard the dregs so that we can carry forward the kindred spirit, advocate the social responsibility and promote Chinese history and culture, provide some helpful inspiration for contemporary family education in China.
