"Du" is a special conception of TCM. In the theory of etiopathogenesis and pathogenesis of TCM, Du is not solely considered as a kind of etiological factor. But from ancient time, "Du" has been used frequently to interpret the occurrence of some diseases and direct clinical therapy. There were many implications about the conception "Du" in ancient TCM literature with it's contents enormous and tanglesome, it's source multiple, it's classification indefinite, the systematical arrangement of the literature of "Du" by doctors of past dynasties was lack, all this brought about difficulties to understand and apply by the later generations. This article select the "Du" of TCM as research object, unscrambled and figured down the source and headstream of "Du" of TCM by philological inspection;Used the taxology research method to reclassify it by hierarchical classification; From linguistics study, analyzed the nomenclature principle and wordformation characteristic of all kinds of "Du", extracted general character of "Du" from it;By means of textology method, carried on arrangement to the classical works such as 《The Yellow Emperor's Internal Classic》 ,General Treatise on the Cause and Symptoms of Diseases》 ,etc. which had omnifaceted treatise on "Du", possessed distinctive characteristic and representativeness, elucidated the primitive connotation; On this research basis ,analyzed the primary meaning and extended meaning of "Du" from philological view, and then, proceeded textual research and discrimination to several pivotal and representative conceptions of "Du";Through conception principle, probed into the rule of nascency and development of "Du" of TCM, summerized the research works, propound the eroneous region in which positivism and reductionism was applied to study the "Du" of TCM, deemed that this is the main reason of the misuse of the conception "Du" at present. The author proceeded the oretical analysis to the conception "Du" of TCM through applying applied hermeneutic research method, thought that the "Du" of TCM originated from "Toxicont", was enriched in etiopathogenesis, and solidified in pathogenesis, apart from few diseases caused by special harmful substance and pathogenic microorganism occurred as etiopathogenesis, the overwhelming majority appeared in the form of pathogenesis conception, it's essence is a theoretical model from which TCM knows the complex diseases, a logistic thinking mode, a theoretical tool used by TCM to solve complicated problems, a result came from the high abstraction to intricate things by human thinking, up to now, it has seldom possessed the meaning of its' reality conception, but more model characteristics of complex system. Moreover, on the basis of reading up "nineteen items of pathogenesis" the lessons of 《The Yellow Emperor's Internal Classic》 , the author learned the experience of supplementing the "Pathogenic dryness" pathogenesis made by the great master Liu He Jian, directly supplemented the pathogenesis of "Pathogenic Du", highly summed up it from the symptoms resulted by the "Pathogenic Du" and the feature of the "Pathogenic Du", put forwarded the principle of pathogenesis as follows: "Diseasesbeing violent> mutually infectious and variational are ascribed to "Du". Diseases with severeness >. hurting mind and spoiling collateral > ruining body are ascribed to" Du"> "Pathogenic factors with the filthy and turbid, belong to Du". "Pathogenic factors with deferment, accumulation and unrelief belong to Du". This can give theoretical directions for right study % comprehension , application of"Du"ofTCM and better direction to clinical practice, and then fulfill the purpose to amend the origin, clear out the headstream and return the original conception of "Du".
