Background : Epilepsy is a clinical syndrom characterized by sudden and transisent functional disorder of central nevous system . Intractable epilepsy , which is about 20%-30% of all epilepsy cases, is difficult to be well-controlled by AEDs. The cause of intractability is very complicated , and the exact mechanism is not clear . There are many clinical reports about the anti-epileptic effects of ibelium on the imtractable epilepsy , but the reports about basic experiments on this effect is few . The discovery of the mechanism will be helpful to produce new AEDs and will lead to good result of theraputic treatment of the intractable epilepsy.Obiective : To study on the influence of ibelium upon the kindling effect, the variation of Ca2+ in CSF and PGP in brain tissues , by making a rat epileptic model. Methods : Animal models of focal epilepsy were constructed by chemical kindling (injection of KA to hippocampus) . All 52 Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups : comtrol group (10) : N.S injection, group A (14): only KA injection , group B (14) : KA injection with AEDs (PHT+PB) given , group C (14) : KA injection with AEDs and ibelium given . AEDs and ibelium were given one hour before KA injection . After kindling , the epileptic performance of rats were observed and recorded by Racine grading . One day and three days after kindling , the Ca2+ in CSF were measured and the expression of PGP of braint...
