【Research background】Multiple Sclerosis(MS), an inflammatory demyelinatingdisease of the central nervous system, usually has high disability rate. Because of itscomplexity, variety, long-duration, progression, unpredictability, and lower incidence,it is hard to find the effective rehabilitation treatments. Most professionalrehabilitation agencies lack experiences with the MS. The patients with MS oftenfeel challengeable to pursue long-term therapies in those agencies due to theirfinicial deficiency. Therefore, the rehabilitation mode, which is patient-centered andhome-based, has been proved and recognized as an effective interference. Thedomestic and foreign literatures show that at present, for the MS, the rehabilitationexercises at home are almost the same as those in the professional agencies, such asbalance training, resistance training, cycle ergometer training, and etc; there isn't anyspecifically designed home-based rehabilitation exercise sets for the patients withMS, which is simple, effective, sequencing, easy to learn and persist.【Research purpose】To study the objective rehabilitation evaluation methods forthe MS; to develop a set of rehabilitation exercieses for the MS; to tentativly test theefficiency of the rehabilitation exercises set by the clinical practice.【Research method】1. The exerperimental subjects are the relapsing-remitting MSand the general healthy people; experimental group, control group, and generalhealthy group are set up to test the sensibility and reliability of the Bioval sensorsystem.2. To consult massive literatures about the rehabilitation exercises for theMS; to summarize some rules of the rehabilitation exercises for the MS; to analyzeseveral famous traditional Chinese gymnastic qigong and some modern fitnessexercises; and to develop a specific rehabilitation exercise set for the MS.3. Toselect the relapsing-remitting MS and set up the experimental group and controlgroup; to test the efficiency of the rehabilitation exercise set for the MS and analyzethe difficulty, persistance, and efficiency of every individual exercise action.4. Statistical method. Use the software SPSS19to do the t-test of the coorespondingpaired samples, t-test of two samples, test of the nonparameters and the counting ofthe relative coefficients.【Research result】1. The Bioval sensor system has high Alpha coefficient andretest coefficient, which means that it has high reliability. However, it can'tdemonstrate the functional changes of the MS, which means that its sensibility ofevaluating the functional changes of the MS is low.2. Have developed arehabilitation exercise set for the MS.3. Before the experiment, there was nostatistics difference of the gender, age, and function level of the patients between theexperimental group and the control group. The EDSS score of the control groupbefore the experiement was no statistics difference with the one after the experiment. The EDSS and MSIS score of the experimental group before the experiement hadsignificant difference with the one after the experiment, while others had nosignificant difference, such as the Ten Meters Walk pace,9-HPT, muscle strengh andendurance, and timed360oturn at the same place. It has statistics correlationbetween EDSS and MSIS, while other hadn't, such as the Ten Meters Walk pace,9-HPT, muscle strengh and endurance, and timed360oturn at the same place. Thereis significant negative correlation between the difficulty and the result of the exercisesets, while there is significant correlation between the persistance and the result ofthe exercise sets.【Conclusion】1. There is no prove of the Bioval sensor system that can work as afunctional evaluation method for the MS. Further tests are needed with the largesample and rigorously designed experiments.2. Certain critical exercises should beincluded into the rehabilitation exercese sets for the MS, such as stretching, balancing, coordinating, controlling, enduring, and etc.3. The rehabilitation exercisesets is helpful for the MS. It can improve the function of the MS.This exercise setsfor the MS should follow certain rules, such as simple, practical, easy to learn, andeffective. The more difficult the exercises are, the harder the patients with MS canpersist, and the less result that they can get. On the contrary, the better of thepersistance, the better of the result.
