With global climate changing, ecological environment aggravating and industrial waste accumulating, prevalence rate of bronchial asthma, a common chronic respiratory disease has an increase tendency year by year all over the world. From the aspects of theory research and clinical observation, this paper discusses etiology and pathogenesis, therapeutical principles and methods, and present research advances in traditional Chinese medicine and modern medicine and also studies releasing lung to dissipate phlegm and supplementing qi to consolidate defensive qi on different phases of asthma course, which can explore treatment methods for bronchial asthma.Asthma could be put under the categories of asthma. Etiology and pathogenesis of asthma are considered as internal causes and external causes in TCM. Asthma relapse is a pathological response to combination of internal factors and extrinsic factors. The referred ZANG-organs are the lung, spleen and kidney. Phlegm and fluid obstructing lung, as a long-standing cause, is an important reason why it is difficult to cure asthma radically. In acute phase, asthma is induced by hidden phlegm, while in remission phase, phlegm and fluid are incubated. On basis of summarizing my adviser's clinical experiences, an important treatment method of asthma, that is releasing lung to dissipate phlegm in acute phase and strengthening healthy qi to eliminate pathogens in remission phase, is put forward. Therefore, core drugs of Xiaoqinglong Decocotion, Sanao Decoction and Yupingfeng Powder are chosen as main prescriptions respectively in acute and remission phases. Meanwhile, on basis of syndrome differentiation, drugs for dispersing stagnated liver qi and drugs for invigorating blood circulation and eliminating stasis should be applied accordingly to help patients recover soon.60 cases of conformed mild and moderate asthma patients were randomly divided into a control group (30 cases), treated with Symbicort Turbuhaler(160μg/4.5μg/inhale), and a treatment group (30 cases), treated with releasing lung to dissipate phlegm and supplementing qi to consolidate defensive qi in different phases and Symbicort Turbuhaler for 3 months respectively. PEF, frequency of asthma attack, frequency of awareness at night because of asthma, availability frequency of short-actingβ2 receptor agonists, glucocorticoid dosage, treatment rate, routine urine test, hepatic function, renal function and ECG were recorded and Asthma Control Questionnaire was filled as scheduled to evaluate TCM symptom curative effect. Statistics showed the symptom curative effect and curative effect index of the treatment group outweighed those of the control group (P<0.05),while complex curative effect, lung function and availability frequency of short-actingβ2 receptor agonists improved in the treatment group, and side effects(hand tremble, palpitation and hoarseness) of the treatment group were less than those of the control group, which indicated that the method of releasing lung to dissipate phlegm and supplementing qi to consolidate defensive qi can improve curative effect of asthma and proved that different prescriptions in different phases can prevent asthma relapse effectively.
