Objectives:To explore the essential of sleep characteristics of balanced constitution, yang-deficiency constitution, yin-deficiency constitution and phlegm-dampness constitution in the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), enrich the theory of Constitution of TCM. To study and compare the characteristics of nocturnal sleep physiological parameters of balanced constitution, yang-deficiency constitution, yin-deficiency constitution and phlegm-dampness constitution. Based on TCM constitution theory, monitoring the sleep state of the participants of the four constitutional types, exploring the relationship between the constitution and sleep and providing the evidence for the research of differences in different constitutional types physiological information, which will further enrich the TCM constitution theory, provide the practical bases for constitutional therapeutic and new way to treat sleep disorders.Methods:Applied the methods of traditional literature collection and modern literature analysis to implement the theory research on sleep characteristics of balanced constitution, yang-deficiency constitution, yin-deficiency constitution and phlegm-dampness constitution, which include aspects of concept, characteristics and sleep disorder tendency. Based on clinical epidemiology investigation and according to the inclusion and exclusion criterions,30 participants of four constitutional types were respectively selected. Applied micromovement sensitive mattress sleep monitoring system to monitor the sleep states of four constitutional types, analyze and compare the nocturnal sleep parameters of four constitutional types, which include sleep stages, respiratory state, SaO2 state, heart rate situation and movement situation.Results:1. All the indexes of balanced constitution are in the normal scope, which reveal that the nocturnal physiological parameters belong to normal standard. It is a healthy state.2. The percentage of sleep stagel and stage2 of yang-deficiency constitution is decrease, the sleep quality of yang-deficiency constitution is lower than balanced constitution but higher than yin-deficiency constitution and phlegm-dampness constitution, LSaO2 of yang-deficiency constitution is lower than normal, average heart rate of yang-deficiency constitution is in normal scope but lower than other three groups, and Other indexes of yang-deficiency constitution are in normal scope, which suggest that the yang-deficiency characteristic of yang-deficiency constitution results in that sleep quality is not very good, low metabolism characteristic of yang-deficiency constitution results in low LSaO2 and low average heart rate.3. Total sleep time, percentage of sleep stage3 and sleep efficiency of yin-deficiency constitution are lower than normal, percentage of sleep stage1 and stage2 and wake time of yin-deficiency constitution are higher than normal which easier to suffer from insomnia than other three groups, average heart rate of yin-deficiency constitution is in normal but higher than other three groups, movement during sleep of yin-deficiency constitution can been seen, and other indexes of yin-deficiency constitution are in normal scope. All these manifestations of yin-deficiency constitution can be explained by the characteristics of yin-deficiency constitution such as yin-deficiency and excessive yang.4. Percentage of sleep stage1 and stage2 and wake time of phlegm-dampness constitution are higher than normal, percentage of sleep stage3 and sleep efficiency of phlegm-dampness constitution are lower than normal, percentage of stage REM of phlegm-dampness constitution is in normal but higher than other three groups, AHI of phlegm-dampness constitution is higher. than normal, LSaO2 of phlegm-dampness constitution decrease, and other indexes are in normal scope, which reveal that phlegm-dampness constitution has the tendency to suffer from OSAHS. Sleep apnea results in increasing of AHI, decreasing of LSaO2 and body movement during sleep. The internal stimulus caused by respiratory disorder seriously disturbs the sleep stages which results in increasing of wake time and sleep stage1 and stage2, decreasing of sleep stage3 and sleep efficiency.Conclusions:By the ordering and comparison of sleep characteristics of balanced constitution, yang-deficiency constitution, yin-deficiency constitution and phlegm-dampness constitution theories, we systematically recognized their differences on sleep disease tendency and regulation measurements, which contributes to the basis of experiment and clinical research. This project first applies the micromovement sensitive mattress sleep monitoring system to monitor the sleep states of four constitutional types, combines the constitutional research and sleeps medicine, widens the application prospect of constitution doctrine and provides the new basis and way to treat sleep disorders. The sleep physiological parameters of balanced constitution are in normal scope and this constitutional type belongs to healthy state. The sleep quality of yang-deficiency constitution is not very high although the sleep time of it is longer, and LSaO2 is lower than normal. The sleep quality of yin-deficiency constitution is lower than other three groups and higher heart rate and body movement can be seen. Phlegm-dampness constitution has the tendency to suffer from OSAHS and frequently sleep apnea results in increasing of AHI and body movement during sleep, decreasing of LSaO2, and seriously disturbs the sleep stages.
