Garlic (Alliun sativum L. ) callus can be successfully established on MS medium supplementing with 0.1 mg/l KT and 2.0 mg/l 2,4-D, after garlic cloves was stored at 8 C for one month. From it, callus sub-culture and cells suspension culture was carried out. The cell growth courses and its accumulation pattern of SOD were studied. With the results show that:1. With existence of a few kinetine (0.1 mg/l), 2, 4- D( 2 -3mg/l) is most efffectively to induce callus formation and promot callus growth. NAA (0.5 mg/ml) is less effectively than 2,4-D.2. Under condition of illuminating 12 hr per day wiht light strength 1200 Lux and culture at 25 C, 4 kinds of shapes of garlic callus morphlogy pattern will be appearce. The time that garlic callus's sub-culture should be carried out is 20 days.3. Such as differentiated cells in nature garlic, the undifferentiated cell in garlic callus also has the ability to synthesis and accumulate SOD. After culture for 15 days, the special activity of SOD in garlic callus is 33.7 U/mg protein,it is 1.56 times of that in nature storage garlic.
