The paper studied the factors of influencing the inducement and growth of pineapple callus; effect of the composition of culture media and other external factors on suspension culture of pineapple cells; accumulation of bromelains during solid and liquid cultures and conditions for inducing pineapple tube plantlets, etc. The results are as follows:1. The apex of pineapple crown was most suitable for callus inducement.2. MS medium was more effective for pineapple callus initiation. Preferred MST medium for suspension culture consisted of NH4NO3 2500mg/L, KNO3 1900mg/L, CaCl2·2H2O 350mg/L, MgSO4· 7H2O 500mg/L, KH2PO4 270 mg/L, sucrose 56g/L, KT lmg/L, 2,4-D 2mg/L and other trace contents the same as MS medium.3. Either auxin or cytokinin could induce the division of explants. But only both auxin and cytokinin were used together, could callus form. The appropriate contents of hormones were 2,4-D 2mg/L and KT lmg/L.4. Moderate illumination improved the initiation and growth of callus; Optimum temperature for callus initiation and cell suspension culture was 28± 1℃. Cell growth got slower at temperatures below 26 ℃; Good air condition was necessary to induce pineapple callus. No callus was induced...
