The construction of Shanghai International Ship Center, Yangshan Harbor, which is the important stratagem and decision-making of Chinese Communist Centrality and State Department to enhance Chinese general national power and international competition ability and is a important foundation establishment project of striding region and co-development, is the great project of Shanghai long-term development and is a signality to Shanghai. The project, study of rapid-report mechanism of spatial information changes and study of information management of deep water harbor, is served for the Yangshan Harbor construction and is what the paper is relied on. The paper has a comprehensive study on the theories and methods of Component Geographical Information System and Virtual Reality Geographical Information System. The paper is consist of seven chapters. The first chapter firstly expatiates on the significance and function, then discusses the necessity of using GIS in Yangshan Harbor construction, at last summarizes some hotspot issues of GIS developing at the moment. The second chapter is the technique and theory foundation. This chapter goes deeply into analyzing the technique and theory system, including the technical base and development process of ComGIS, VR-GIS and relative technology, Digital Earth, Digital City, Object-orient software engineering, spatial analysis model and Remote Sensing data processing. Chapter three is the spatial database construction of Yangshan Harbor area. Data is the blood of GIS. Firstly, it analyzes the version of "Digital Shanghai" data platform and its frame for it is the foundation of Yangshan Harbor Database. Then the designs and idiographic realizations of how to set up the spatial database and RS image database of Yangshan Harbor area are presented, especially the last one. Chapter four is the study of terrain three-dimension modeling of Yangshan Harbor area. DEM is the base of terrain three-dimension visualization and VR-GIS. This chapter discusses the concept of DEM, some methods and models of establishing DEM and gives out the detailed realization process. The result of this chapter holds the balance of VR-GIS. Chapter five discusses how to analyze the sediment movement by visualization way. With the getatable materials, the sediment states of Yangshan Harbor area are simulated by using three-dimension visualization method, the main thoughts of this chapter is to simulate the undersea terrain andsediment movement of Yangshan Harbor visually, and conclude the rule of sediment movement of Yangshan Harbor on the basis of the result above. The sixth chapter is about how to develop the Yangshan Harbor VR-GIS component on the basis of OpenGL. The component is developed from understratum. The system structure of VR-GIS component on the basis of COM has three levels. The paper gives out how to realize the component with OpenGL and VC++ detailedly. At last it introduces the main functions of the Yangshan Harbor VR-GIS component. The last chapter is conclusions and prospects. From the study and practice of project and paper, the originalities and conclusions of the paper can be demonstrated by the following.(1) Importing GIS ^specially advanced technology, such as VR-GIS, ComGIS, 3S Integration into the Yangshan Harbor engineering construction, which makes the construction process clear, enhances the work efficiency and makes the decision-making more scientific. At present, the application of using GIS to managing harbor is rare at home or overseas. The paper which selects this important project has the significance of theory and practice.(2) The VR-GIS component with independent knowledge right is developed from understratum under the require of ComGIS, which can realize the encapsulation of the component and expand the component easily. The paper demonstrates some functions of VR-GIS component, which can apply easier and better interaction than ERDAS Imagine. At present, the report on the realization of VR-GIS component is very few at home or overseas.
