A Philosophical Reflection On The Success Of Sci-tech Subject

Recently, the term success has been popular among people who are from all walks of life. However,along with the increasing in awareness of success, people has been changing their views on success, not only regarding success as a realization of a goal,but also as a large accumulation of the material wealth as well as an enviable social status. Scientists and technical workers,as the most active forces of promoting the development of the social material wealth, and of the spiritual civilization, has been subject to a variety of realistic conditions. Thereofe, coming into their inner world, and discovering their values and attitudes towards the life, as well as analyzing those realistic conditions,will have practical significance. Based on those research, presenting sciencists and technical workers'values and attitudes towards success or achievement, as well as to the life, in order to better understand the meaning of the life, to understand the tension between the ideal and the reality, is the purpose of this dissertation.This paper demonstrates the purposes by developing the following steps.Firstly, I will try to explore some basic concepts and theories which are related closely to scientists and technical workers, and their success and achievements. In this paper, what I argue about scientists and technical workers mean the individual subject.By taking philosophical views to this question, this paper as a whole picture will be appreciated philosophically.Such aspects as the definition,the kinds and characteristics and qualities of scientists and technical workers will be included. In addition, the orginal meaning of success will be explored in this part both from Chinese culture and English background. I think that success in doing something fristly and mostly is teleological, no matter whatever the purpose is.Secondly, success in doing something is practical, depending on man's practical activities.Based on those analisises, I will formulate the structure of this theorical research by logically developing this topic. Secondly,this paper will focus on the demonstrations of subjective and objective conditions related to success in doing something by scienstists and technogical workers. The two factors or conditions are both complementary and antagonisti.My argument is that the success by a scientist and technical worker depends subjectively on such qualities as knowledge background,abilities and psychological quality.The objective conditons include the Science and technology system and the policies. The degree of the social development and material wealth, as well as working environment. Generally speaking, the seccess achieved by scienstists and technogical workers depends on the favorable combination of subjective and objective conditions. However,we cann't say that causal factors can be excluded.How to evaluate the success, and how to analize theoritically the evaluating system will be found in the third chapter of this paper.I argue that evaluating is a method for man to find and reveal the value of something. Evaluating the scientists and technogical workers depends on the knowledge of what this specialized group'value is. Man's success is not simply the improvement or progress in himself,but more related to the society interests and well-being. To judge whether or not a scientist and technogical worker succeed in their research, depends on whether their achievements are benefinit to the whole socity and to the development of the society. Those two points should be covered in the eveluating system.If the evaluating system is reseanable and practical, it will be helpful to exercise their initatives and promote the harmonious development of the whole society.This section tries to establish a theoretical system different from traditional system characterized with instrumental or economical or utilitarian value. By refelction critically on traditional values, I will try to come up with a new evaluating system combining individudal evaluation and social evaluation in order to take finding, creating and realizing as well as utilizing into consideration to evalute success.Finally, I will display the realistic significances on this topic. Based on the above argument, we can conclude that succeeding in doing some works,in itself, means a lot to individual life and the social life. To an individual, succees in his work actually means his achievements or works not only individidually but also socially.Correspondingly, evaluating one's succees should take into consideration whether he has achieved his full development. Meanwhile, the success to the whole social life should be benefinit to the relationship between man and the nature.The human society and the nature are the whole one and not seperated. If we only focus on the human society, we couldnot achieve man's development. Only the relationship between man and the nature has been looking after,can sustainable development be achieved. Therefore, the success in science and technology should be displayed in the ecology development. I think that succeeding in their works by those specialized groups actually is dialectical unity in values held respectively by the individual and the society, also including the ecological values.This paper will focus on some relevant aspects related to success by scientists and technogical workers, by introducing philosophy and psychology as well as sociology into the research, and developing systematically this sepcial group'views on success from the philosophy standpoint.
