The Influencing Mechanism On Comprehensive Performance For Small And Medium-sized Agricultural Enterprises Based On The Resource Heterogeneous

The development of social economy changed the environment on which businesses operate, and in turn challenged the managements’ ability to operate and manage the businesses.It is always concerned by every stakeholders how to province risk and promote performance under this complex environment. Restrained by the weakness nature of agriculture industry and its scale, it is much harder to promote the operating performance for small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises. According to the Resource-based Theory(RBT), the differences among enterprises are caused by resource heterogeneity of the enterprise. So, how this resource heterogeneity embodies in enterprises? And whether they actually affect the small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises’ comprehensive performance positively?This thesis, for the purposes mentioned above, is designed to help to eliminate the bottleneck constraining the performance of small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises.Based on lots of literatures, this thesis starts from the specific resource heterogeneity analysis. Then, the impact of heterogeneous resource input on the small and medium-sized agriculture enterprises is analyzed under the enterprises’ institutional context. 14 hypotheses are developed and the path of resource heterogeneity affecting the operating performance of agricultural enterprises is to be clarified through testing the hypothesis. Empirical analysis first confirmed that the four-factor heterogeneous resource model is adaptable. That is under the enterprises’ supporting systems, the differences in comprehensive performance among small and medium-sized enterprises can be explained in terms of heterogeneous financial and physical resources, knowledge resources, and “Guanxi” resources. Empirical analysis is done with SEM based on the data collected from the questionnaire survey.Results show:(1)the financial and physical resources heterogeneity have positive effect on the small and medium-sized agricultural enterprise’s comprehensive performance;(2) knowledge resource heterogeneity has no effect on the small and medium-sized agricultural enterprise’s comprehensive performance;(3) “Guanxi” resources heterogeneity have no effect on the small and medium-sized agricultural enterprise’s financial performance but significant positive effect on the nonfinancial performance;(4) the enterprises’ supporting systems have positive effect on all the resource heterogeneity.By comparing the revised model well-fit into data with the theoretical model, the problems underlying the resource heterogeneity for agricultural enterprises are thoroughly explored. The empirical results of this thesis identifies that the heterogeneity of the newly resources may not be confirmed by the enterprises.According to the problems we found, the counter meatures are proposted as follows: Firstly, we should trigger the heterogeneity of knowledge resource through improve the knowledge resource management and information disclosure, this will emphasize the promotive of knowledge resource heterogeneity to small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises. Secondly, Tthe effect of “Guanxi” resource heterogeneity on financial performance is somewhat trivial in terms of the efficiency of resource use, which reveals the risk of input in “Guanxi” resource. Thus, it is suggested that small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises pay attention to build balance mechanism and prevent the risk underlying “Guanxi” network in building “Guanxi” network.
