What is beyond dout is that science and technology plays key role in enhancing comprehensive national strength and improving economic development nowadays. In this background, how to conduct high-level innovative scientific research become the worldwide agenda. Chinese scientific achievements have made a great leap in quantity but high-level innovative ones are less since implement the strategy of rejuvenating China through science technology and talent. Indisputable that the facilitation science and technology plays on productivity is weak. What has caused this phenomenon? What hinder on university scientific research connect with economic society? What are the influencing factors to conduct high-level research? These questions are starting points of this research. It has became normal to conduct scientific research through teams to find out new knowledge and solve problems especially to natural science in the modern time. Most of the existing research on the knowledge production of research team adopt quantitative research method—construct theoretical framework, propose research hypothesis, design questionnaire, conduct quantitative analysis—apply organization and management theories. This research adopt qualitative research method—entering specific research teams—and the theoretical framework apply the knowledge production models. So the research method and theories basis are different from the existing research. The research object is a Changjiang Scholar research team in E University. The research question is what affect the university conduct distinguish scientific research. The research path is as follows:first doing theoretical analysis on knowledge production models. Then, adopting qualitative research methods—grounded theory, content analysis, text analysis, interviews, participant observation, etc.—to do micro analysis on the research team including the questions they research, the aims to produce knowledge, the academic evaluation, the organization structure and it’s impact on the knowledge production. The study found that, the knowledge production model of the Changjiang scholar research team in E University is affected and constructed by tripartite of academic community, state and market. The characteristic are it demonstrate new managerialism centers on performance; Team members are more prefer doing research for inquiring knowledge; For market-oriented research projects, they are willing to do but can not devote themselves into then. The state-oriented research projects require the researchers must have certain relative professional accumulation. The value orientation of the academic evaluation is taking the state-oriented projects as the principal thing, academic-oriented and market-oriented are second. Under this circumstance, the research team become organized community which has the features both of organization and community, but the trend is the feature of organization becomes more and more obviously. The knowledge production model of the research team have made great contribution to basic theories research and social service yet, but facing the problems of the team can promote it to grow to be excellent. The problems are the team members some time are confused by the different requirements from the three kind research projects mentioned above and they are also under heavy pressure from the academic evaluation. The team members have polarized in this situation. Some ones have got more and more honor and award. Some ones drift along as slow-boiling frog. How to solve these problems to promote excellent? The advice is let the team members have more freedom to choose the appropriate research projects according to their research interest and at the same time evaluate them in different evaluation standards.
