Agriculture underpins the economy of a country. As the key to developing a well-off society in an all-round way, the modernization of agriculture depends on the research, development and promotion of agricultural technologies. Therefore, it is of important theoretical values and practical significance to investigate into the behavioral response mechanism of farmers on agricultural technologies as well as behavioral factors affecting the application of agricultural technologies by farmers so as to probe into the behavioral mechanisms of farmers in terms of decision making on agricultural technologies, and understand the basic rules of the promotion and dissemination of agricultural technologies.Based on systematic review and consolidation of researches on agricultural technology application behaviors of farmers at home and abroad, this paper first analyzes the development stages and features of agriculture in Taiwan; discusses the features, functions and flows of agricultural technologies; focuses on analysis of classifications, advantages and development of agricultural technologies in Taiwan; introduces the basic conditions of application of agricultural technologies from Taiwan in the Chinese Mainland, especially the areas of data sources. Then, from the aspect of rational farmers and under the assumption that the maximization of anticipated profits from the agricultural technologies is the basis of decision making of farmers on their behaviors, this paper further analyzes the economics mechanisms and behavioral response mechanisms of the application of agricultural technologies by farmers, and establishes the theoretical analysis framework of application behavior of agricultural technologies by farmers. This paper also selects agricultural technologies from Taiwan with unique advantages as objects for case study and conducts site investigation and data collection on 328 farmer households in Zhangpu County of Fujian Province, adopts approaches such as basic statistical analysis, consistency check, analysis of variance, Logistic regression analysis and SPSS 16.0 statistical software to make quantitative statistical analysis of the data investigated and collected. And this paper separately makes empirical surveys on relations of the farmer feature factors, resource endowment factors and the application of agricultural technologies by farmers, relations between risk preferences of farmers and the application of agricultural technologies from Taiwan by farmers, relations between system factors of agricultural technologies and the application of agricultural technologies by farmers. Finally, this paper proposes corresponding policy-concerned suggestions based on the outcomes of theoretical analysis and empirical surveys.Based on theoretical analysis and empirical survey, this paper reaches major research conclusions as follows:(1) Influential factors on behaviors of application of agricultural technologies by farmers consist of three aspects:farmer household features and resource endowments; risk preference of farmers, systems on agricultural technologies. The farmer household features and resource endowments involve factors such as basic individual features, psychological feature and resource endowments. Risk preferences of farmers involve factors such as cognition of, knowledge about and attitude towards risk. Systems on agricultural technologies involve factors such as allowance, financial support, services and promotion modes of agricultural technologies. (2) The application rate of agricultural technologies from Taiwan is relatively high among farmer households in areas investigated into. Among the 328 valid questionnaires collected,225 farmer households have practically applied agricultural technologies from Taiwan, a proportion of 68.6%; and 103 farmer households haven’t applied agricultural technologies from Taiwan, a proportion of 31.4%. The main reasons selected include "not familiar with agricultural technologies from Taiwan", "limited land size", "requiring too much additional funds", "relatively satisfied with current agricultural technologies", "difficult to master agricultural technologies from Taiwan", "shortage in household labor", "worrying about risks of agricultural technologies from Taiwan" and "other reasons, for example, natural disaster" from the highest frequency to the lowest. (3) As shown in empirical surveys, part of factors in farmer household features and resource endowments are bearing remarkable influences on the application behavior of agricultural technologies from Taiwan by farmers. The outcomes of Logistic regression show that, the application behavior from Taiwan are remarkably influenced by seven explanatory variables including sex, educational background, participation in rural cooperative economic organization, household location, household labor, average annual income, proportion of agricultural income of the total, with influence coefficients respectively of 1.234,-0.735,2.153,-0.645,-0.622,0.397,-0.424, showing that farmer households mainly consisting of males, with relatively low educational background, having joined rural cooperative economic organization, living near the rural, with less labor, higher average annual household income and lower proportion of agricultural income in the total area are more inclined to apply agricultural technologies from Taiwan. (4) As shown in empirical surveys, different risk preferences of farmer households are obviously influencing the application of agricultural technologies from Taiwan by farmers. According to outcomes in Logistic regression, aggressive farmer households are only influenced by the variable of "household position", with the influence factor of -1.355, which shows that farmer households living near villages are more inclined to apply agricultural technologies from Taiwan. Moderate farmer households are influenced by variables such as their participation in rural cooperative economic organization, household labor, subjective norm and risk knowledge, with influence coefficients respectively 2.599,-0.678,0.406 and 1.167, which shows that farmer households joining in the rural cooperative economic organization, with less household labors, stronger subjective norms and more risk knowledge are more inclined to apply agricultural technologies from Taiwan. Conservative farmer households are only influenced by risk cognition with the influence facto of -0.883, which shows that farmer households with weaker risk cognition are more inclined to apply agricultural technologies from Taiwan. (5) As shown in empirical surveys, some factors in the systems for agricultural technologies are bearing remarkable influence on the application of agricultural technologies by farmers from Taiwan. According to the outcomes of Logistic regression, the application of agricultural technologies from Taiwan by farmers are remarkably influenced by four explanatory variables of whether having received subsidy, correlation between technological application and technological subsidy, cognition on the effects of technological services and the availability of production demonstration bases. The influence coefficients are respectively -1.582,1.324,0.832 and 1.439, which shows that farmer households having obtained technological subsidy, more assured on correlation between technological application and technological subsidy and with stronger cognition on effects and accessibility to local production demonstration bases are more inclined to apply agricultural technologies from Taiwan.Based on theoretical analysis, research results and findings in investigation, this paper proposes six policy-related suggestions as follows:(1) Innovate the service patterns of agricultural technologies to enhance the technological service of agriculture; (2) develop rural cooperative economic organization to fully exert the functions of rural cooperative economic organizations in helping farmer households to apply new technologies; (3) construction scientific and rational publicity methods on agricultural technologies from Taiwan; (4) attach importance to constructions of production demonstration bases on agricultural technologies from Taiwan; (5) intensify the implementation of corresponding agricultural subsidy policies to motivate farmer households to apply advanced agricultural technologies; (6) formulate rational financial supporting policies on promotion of agricultural technologies to enhance the technical financing abilities of farmer households.
