Along with our country economic development into the new normal period, among the Troika that stimulating economic growth, consumption will become the most important engine of economic growth in China. The retail industry as a product of large-scale socialized production, connecting production and consumption, provides products or services directly to final consumers, namely that production must achieve the value of goods and transfer ownership by the retail industry finally, in order to make the product separate from the circulation into the consumption, thus ensuring the continued operation of social reproduction fundamentally. As a result of direct to the final consumers, the retail industry can get insight into market dynamics timely, and grasp the changes in consumer demand, therefore, the retail industry in the process of promoting the consumer has a special status. Retail format evolution as part of the evolution of the retail industry, at present, in the background of putting forward Internet Plus development strategy, the research on evolution of retail format, is beneficial to the sustainable development of the retail industry, which has important practical significance to promote the consumption, thereby stabilizing the economy growth. In addition, the economic evolution is the frontier in economic research in recent years, the enterprise as the main research object of the microcosmic economics and the industry as the main research object of industry economics are two common perspectives of research on economic evolution, and research on formats evolution, provides another perspective for the study of economic evolution in addition to the enterprise and industry, which helps to deepen and improve the economic theory of evolution.This paper, which was based on the relevant theories of retail format evolution, by sorting out and analyzing the evolution course of retail format, the evolution of retail format was stage summarized, the process and reasons of online retail format development were answered, some of the common law in the course of the evolution of the physical and online retail format were summarized, and put forward the policy suggestions for the evolution of the two kinds of retail formats. Firstly, based on the research of the evolution course of physical retail format, summarizes four factors affecting to physical retail format evolution, including consumption development, technology progress, format competition and government regulation, summed up physical retail format organization evolution of the single store model to chain model.Secondly, based on the research of the evolution course of online retail format, it was found that the online retail format achieved growth mainly by price competition. The main reasons for the rise of online retail format are during to the way of trade changed, the vitality of the retail market stimulated, the development of related industries promoted, consumer and employment spending expanded,and so on. Thirdly, the paper summarizes three evolution types of total retail format systematically, including the market spontaneous evolution, government leading evolution and combined action of market and government evolution, comprehensively summarizes three mechanisms of total retail format evolution, including the variation mechanism, market selection mechanism and maintain mechanism, analyses product differentiation model and price gradient model of the evolution model of total retail formation detail. Forth, by the empirical analysis, promoting effect was confirmed between the evolution of total retail format and economic growth, however, as promoting effect is gradually strengthened between the evolution of online retail format and economic growth, the promoting effect is gradually weakened between evolution of physical retail format and economic growth. Fifth, the paper proposes the policy suggestions on the evolution of the overall retail format from three aspects, these proposals including clear thinking about the evolution of the retail format, promoting the coordinated development of two kinds of retail formats and standardizing the price competition behavior of the online retail format.The innovations of this paper mainly lie in the following aspects:First, builds the framework for the analysis of the two stages of the evolution of physical retail format and online retail format. According to retail format evolution process, focusing on the overall timeline of the evolution of retail format, according to the standard medium of exchange, the evolution of the retail format analysis is divided into two stages of physical retail format and online retail format. The two stages of the evolution of the retail format are summarized in the evolution process of the retail format, so as to provide a new idea for the research of the development of the retail format. Second, this paper puts forward the main factors that influence the evolution of the physical retail format. Due to the physical retail format has experienced a long process of development, thus the influence factors of the physical retail format evolution there have been many research results, however, the existing analysis is often confined to a specific physical retail format, the research results are lack of universality. This paper overcomes the difficulties caused by physical retail format development for a long time and multi-format category, factors affecting the physical retail format development were analyzed systematically, puts forward that the development of consumption, technological progress, government regulation and competition formats are the main evolution factors of physical retail format. Third, for the recent online retail format booming trend, reveals the ways and causes of the rise of online retail formats, by the analysis on the evolution process of online retail format, it is considered that the online retail format entered retail market and achieved rising mainly by price competition, the rise of online retail format is mainly due to changes in trade, stimulate the retail market vitality, and promote the development of related industries and promote the realization of consumption and employment growth and other economic effects. Fourth, this paper attempts to build an innovative panel data model for the relationship between the total retail format development and economic growth of the inspection and estimate. Results show that in general, the total retail format evolution and economic growth exist positive correlation, but the online retail formats evolution and economic growth is related to gradually strengthen, and the physical retail format evolution and economic growth is related to slowly weakened.
