With the rapid globalization of economy, resources, products and markets arescattered all over the world. The market is undergoing big changes and the competitionhas become hard. It is important for all members and parts connecting closely. Thosemembers and parts can deal with the integrated information to strengthen thecooperation of supply chain and to reduce the length of supply chain. In addition, theprocess of logistics has become smooth, and has higher efficiency and faster responsespeed. These problems are urgent for management science and engineering. Mulitmodaltransportation is an important transportation manner, which has become an importantmanner for the fourth part logistics (4PL) to promote competent ability and reduce thelogistics cost. Compared to the single modal transportation, multimodal transportationcan increase the efficiency, enhance safety and flexiblity. However, the management anddecision of multimodal transportation is more difficult than single modal transportation.Therefore, the research of optimal modeling of multimodal transportation of4PL andoptimal algorithm has important theroetical and realistic foundation. Consequently, onthe basis of reveiwing the state of the art of the modeling method, optimal algorithmand decision suport system, a new modeling method will be discussed in this study.According to the characteristic of the model, a new hybrid Taguchi genetic algorithm isproposed. The model and algorithm are validated numerically. The decision and supportsystem of mulitmodal transportaion is develeoped on the basis of hierchical analysismethod. The main contents are as follows.In the first part, the definition of4PL is determined. The relation of4PL tomultimodal transportation is addressed. The recent development of multimodaltransportation in strategical level, tactical level and opertation level is reviewedrespectively. The path optimizaion and optimal algorithm are analyzed. Some unsolvedproblems are addressed.In the seccond part, the modeling effection factors of multimodal transportation areanalyzed in view of carrier. The effection of transportion manner on optimal objectives(including transportation cost, transportation time and carbon emission) is alsoaddressed. A new modeling method based on multiple edges is proposed. Four types ofmodel are formulated including the optimal model of job integration of multi-agent inmultimodal transportation with time window, the optimal model of multimodal transportation with fuzzy time window, the multiobjective optimal model of multimodaltransportation with time window and the optimal model of multimodal transportationwith time window considering carbon emission.In the third part, the characteristics of multimodal transportation are analyzed. Theoptimal problem of multimodal transportation is proved to be a NP complete problem.The optimal solution can be found theoretically with the k shortest path algorithm. Ahybrid Taguchi genetic algorithm is proposed based on k shortest path algorithm.In the fourth part, the numerical method is applied to validate the optimal modeland algorithm under different transportaiton conditions. The effection of path andtransportion manner on optimal objectives (including transportation cost, transportationtime and carbon emission) is discussed.At last, a decision support system of multimodal transportaion (which considersthe effection of transportation cost, transportation time and carbon emission) isdeveloped and applied to calculate the optimal solution of eastern logistics system inChina on the basis of hiearchical analysis method.
