Improving radar detection performance of multiple unresolved targets is a frontier topic and pressing task in radar technology field. If conventional radar can not discriminate two ore more tergets from range, angle and Doppler shift, we call these targets multiple unresolved targets. Monostatic radar sometimes has fine range resolution but bad angle resolution which brings on severe error in detecting and tracking of multiple unresolved targets. Bistatic/Multistatic radar has the conventional advantages such as anti-stealth and anti-interference, in addditin, it’s diversity in target information acquisition, mode of operation and techniche realization let using bistatic/multistatic radar to detect multiple unresolved targets becomes possible partly. Under the background of air and missile defense, bistatic/multistatic radar is used to detect the presence of multiple unresolved targets and discriminate them from three aspects comprising signal processing, data association and resolution improving, the research results contains the following aspects:Firstly, multiple unresolved targets echo characteristics of monostatic/bistatic radar were developed. Aiming at linear frequency modulation pulse signal of monostatic and bistatic radar, target echo models of multiple unresolved targets were presented and multiple unresolved targets effects on magnitude and phase characteristic of target echo signals were studied.Secondly, detection of presence of multiple unresolved targets using multistatic radar was researched. The methods using complex indicated angle information were extended from monostatic radar situation to multistatic radar situation. By comparing the performance, multistatic radar can detect the presence of multiple unresolved targets more efficiently with high SNR.Hybrid bistatic/multistatic radar signal fusion methods were presented for the detection of multiple unresolved targets. Target echo signal models of monostatic radar receiver and bistatic/multistatic radar receivers were established, on that basis, aiming at two-dimensional plane and three-dimensional space, the signal fusion model was presented based on range information and used to detect multiple unresolved targets with a maximum likelihood ratio test method, and the effects of SNR, pulse accumulation number, detection threshold and bistatic geometry to the detection performance were analyzed.Considering multistatic radar systems with single transmitter/multiple transmitters and multiple receivers, waveform selection, sensor geometrical configurarion were used soly and jointly to improve the radar system resolution based on spatially coherent and incoherent multistatic radar ambiguity function, then multiple unresolved targets will be discriminated more easily. Finally, the last part summarizes the whole dissertation, points out the major creativeness, and especially brings out some suggestion for future work.
