With the booming national revolution and anti-colony campaigns after World War Ⅱ, the modern nation-state system was well recognized in the world, which highly increased the diversity of its member nations and triggered the discrepancy of the system itself. As we are living in the modern nation-state system and based on the fact that dozens of countries formed this complicated system, the identity among nations is of much importance, and the study of state image is well grounded. Meanwhile, as soft power the state image plays a key role in the international competition depending on its reputation. The image of China not only impacts the international environment of its development, but influences its future policy and developing path as well. So the study of China’s image does make sense. However, the fast developing China undoubtedly deals a blow to the original order of the modern nation-state system. After the cultural conflicts between the West and China, the whole world, especially the West, presents an unwelcomed image of China. Talks about China Threat Theory, Ideology China and Devil China are prevalent. Most importantly, after interpretation of the main stream media in the West and intercultural communication, the image of China has become a hegemonic discourse, which disrupts other countries’ interpreting of China and misleads China in self-judging its own position in the world."China Image" really matters. The paper begins with description of China’s Image and its development in the eyes of the West, which is regarded as the birthplace of the modern nation-state system and the rule maker and keeper. Based on the analysis of China’s Image study in the West, the paper is tentative to rationalize the relations between China’s realization of itself and the other, build up the logic of judging China’s position in the world, restate China’s attitude and value of its image to the West, and frame a logic and goodwill surrounding for China’s cultural friendly image. The critical-dialogic analysis of the intercultural communication shares the same international influence and power with China’s image, this paper studies the "forming and composition of China’s Image" in the scope of intercultural communication analysis. The followings are the main subjects.Chapter one describes documents of the paper’s theory basis, which is the analysis of the intercultural communication in the modern nation-state system. In this chapter, the concept of "Image of China" is rationalized. Chapter two studies China’s Image in the western counties’ eyes, and how hegemonic discourse has been shaped after the intercultural communication in the world. Chapter three analyzes how the hegemonic discourse influenced China’s self-shaping during its localization, and how the Chinese culture resists against it. Besides, this chapter explains what conflict has come into being in the Chinese modern narratives. Chapter four focuses on the cultural stand that helps solve the modern conflicts between China and the West during the cultural development, building up the theories that are totally different from the previous ones in the study of "Image of China". Chapter five continues discussing the thinking of innovative theories and key routes. In the conclusion, the paper emphasizes the focal point. The research does not aim to work out the image itself, but aim to re-identify itself in the analyzing of Chinese image and debating of its cultural diversity, which helps Chinese culture become a minded subject. It is China’s own choice to accept or reject images in different culture, and in which way to build up Chinese image. We are confident to make the right decisions in the fast changing times. By doing this, we can carry out the right state image strategy with the thinking of cultural self-consciousness, instead of being misled by the West and trapped into the myth of self-orientalizing.
