The Publication, Circulation And Reading Of Marxist Works In China (1927-1937)

In the Kuomintang ruling environment, the Marxism as a kind of theory of ideology became a social “main trend” in the 1930 s, which fully reflects the vitality of the Marxism. This paper reconstructed the cultural front around the works of Marx’s confrontation, and then to analysis the spread soil of Marxism, for which have deeply understand the cultural factors of victory of Chinese Communist Party.In this paper, we try to abandon the preconceived ideas and thoughts to make contact with the audience; we try to explore ideas about the load of history from the logic of spread of publication, circulation and reading; we try to explore the Marxism ideological trend influence. We paid attention to not only publishing number and types about the works, but also to investigate the production of Marxism, who produced the books? What are the reasons? How to get the readers after the publication of the book? How to absorb the information contained in the reader’s book, and how to reproduce the significance of the theory?The paper is divided into five parts:The first part reviewed Marxist works spread before 1927 in China. This part respectively investigates the publication of the translation Marx’s theory and the works of Marx in light of the foundation of CPC as the cutoff point.The second part inspected the publication of Marxist works in 1927-1937, including the context, sources of funding, printing and binding of publication, and the translation groups, publishers and Book status.The third part explored the distribution network of Marxist works. The emphasis of this part is to review how the Marx’s writings could be publicly or secretly carried, sold, transferred or saved under the supervision of KMT regime.The fourth part reproduced the world of Marxist works reading. This part investigates the notes, comments and book review, and look for the signs and forms at that time in order to inspect the benefit of readers after reading Marx’s writings and reveal the significance of the readings generated.The fifth part revealed the Marxism from the "symbol" to "the evolution path of the value tendency" through the description of Marx’s theory of carrier transmission lines.The conclusion discussed the transformation of Marx’s thoughts from the theory to a trend of thought.From the publication, circulation and reading of Marx books, Marx’s theory is not only exists as a communist doctrine at the time, but as a kind of popular social science widely used.
