Against the background of new China drama development from 1949-1966, and based on typical dramas and operas during this period, this paper explores the development process of stage art which is interpreted layer by layer from the perspective of theoretical construction. The reform of traditional opera, the construction of professional drama troupes, the "nationalization" of modern drama and the promotion of modern Beijing Opera basically constitute the survival pattern of new China drama during the "seventeen years".Under specific historical environment, the early stage of new China drama not only produced many successful stage works, but also cultivated a group of outstanding directors, actors and stage artists who embodied the spirit of new China and influenced the art style of drama development. As an organic part of drama, stage art, exactly in such a transformation stage of reform trends and drama concepts, stepped into initial period of new China.This paper, through the following three chapters, tries to analyze and record the development process of "seventeen years" stage art.Chapter 1: Initial period(1949-1956). Sort out and record theatrical performances(drama and opera), comment on the initial period of stage art.Chapter 2: Chinese and foreign drama communication(1950-1965). International education cooperation, student exchange and hiring experts to give lectures accelerated the establishment of new China theatrical education system. Drama exchange in this historical period had a profound impact on new China stage art education and talents cultivation.Chapter 3: Nationalization and argument(1957-1966).From 50 s to 60 s, opera and drama learned from each other to explore the nationalization and diversity of drama literature, directing, performances and stage art.Finally, from the perspective of history and in the context of drama, we analyze the development and evolution of "seventeen years" stage art.To sum up, after the founding of new China, stage art research has been in a new social and political environment and cultural atmosphere- that is, the historical era of increasingly deeper socialist revolution and construction. In order to adapt to this era, stage art research as well as the whole drama research, tried to explore and establish a new pattern.
