Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) are associated with exposed dentin that, devoid of a protective cover of cementum or by a missing smear layer , is sensitive to thermal, tactile or osmotic stimuli. According to the hydrodynamic theory, making the dentin tubule becomes less permeable or occluding the tubule probably by reducing the fluid to flow can disable the stimuli to transmit. Hydroxyapatite [Ca5(PO4)3(OH), HA] is the main inorganic phase of human teeth tissue. Researches suggested that hydroxyapatite is effective in occluding the dentin tubule, because nano HA is smaller than hydroxyapatite, it is conceivable that the nHA particles can be deposited in the tubule.Potassium ions can decrease the excitability of the nerve fiber so that depress the pain in dentin hypersensitivity. Fluoride enhances remineralization through precipitation with calcium and phosphate. Fluoride varnishes have been approved by the FDA for the treatment of hypersensitive teeth. The varnish acts as a reservoir for the fluoride, which is slowly released for remineralization to occur into the dentinal tubules, thereby blocking dentinal fluid flow. The aim of this study is to develop a novel nanoscaled potassium containing fluoridated hydroxyapatite varnish (nHA-varnish) that will be applied in closing the orifice on the denin surface and promote the dentin to regenerate in order to cure DH.Materials and Methods: the novel nanoscaled potassium containing fluoridated hydroxyapatite was synthesized by sol-gel method. The nature resin was added as varnish reagents. The properties of the novel material and its effect...
