| Objective: To evaluate the effect and methods of ECPB in thoracic surgery under emergency situation.Methods: From November 1993 to November 2003, 6 imminent patients were performed with ECPB. Among them, four cases with imminent bleeding, two cases with apnea. Cardiopulmonary bypass was established urgently in order to save patient's life.Results: 5 cases survived(the survival rate was 85.7%), 1 case died of acute renal failure after 2 weeks. In one year, 4 cases died of cancer recurring.Conclusion: ECPB is effective in rescuing severe patients who need urgent treatment in thoracic surgery , but ECPB can only be used under emergency situation.
