Objective: to practice pattern recognition on tongue color and explore the characteristics of tongue color of patients with primary hepatic carcinoma (PHC) and its correlation with PHC. Method: Optimized illumination environment and camera setting were tested, and different methods for image segmentation, summarization of specialist's experience and pattern recognition. The characteristics of tongue color of PHC were summarized and its formation mechanism and clinical value were explored. Results: D50 light source and self-defined white balance were selected. The method based on skin color model and GVF snake model for image segment, Delphi evaluation for tongue color diagnosis, and ordered elastic meshing and BP network to realize pattern recognition on tongue color. Purple tongue is an important character for PHC patients and an important reference for PHC, its formation is closely correlated with abnormal microcirculation of tongue, the age, hepatic cirrhosis and clinical stages. Conclusion: Pattern recognition for tongue color is realized. Tongue characteristics in PHC is also summarized, and its formation and clinical guide are also explored. The study have laid a good foundation for subsequent study.
