Interactivity Of Architectural Design In Information Age

Mass cultures, media and information technology in information age have come into architecture and have deep influence both on ideas and methods of architectural design. Information technology (IT), represented by multimedia and internet, is featured by interactivity, which has changed popular work methods and communication manners and so involved architecture. From inspecting theory and practice of interactive art, the relationship among IT, medium and architecture is discussed, and interactivity is introduced to architecture. The basic theories of inter-aesthetics are applied to architecture afterwards to demonstrate revelation and influence on it brought by interactivity.Compared to architecture related to IT, the difference between interactive architecture space and tradition one can be exhumed, which is efficient circulation of information. According to aspects of the interactivity of architecture and taking instruction of inter-aesthetics, contemporary interactive architecture instances are reviewed and commented; the formal and technological features of multimedia architecture are induced. After analyzing existing research on public participation architecture and urban plan, application of IT such as internet and VR to public participation design is put forward. That is an interactive design concept which could widen and soup up public participation so that design activities could become efficient circulation of information. Facing reality in our country, strategies of carrying out interactive design are probed, including transforming ideas of administrator, construction of public participating mechanism and organization, propagating architecture culture and criticism by architects, utilizing IT to interactive design and so on. We should make real interaction between public and architects by applying IT in order to promote the level of architecture design continuously.
