It is only fourty years since the environment----behaviour study in the world came into being as a field of study. As for our country, it is only twenty years or so. Therefore, It is a new field of study.Based on the theories of architecture, psychology, behaviour sciences, sociology, cultural anthropology and so on, the dissertation systematically and profoundly analyses the needs of human behaviour to spacial environment and the influence of spacial environment to human behaviour from different angles, sides and levels. the thesis not only inquires into the common law of spacial behaviour, but also into the spacial behaviour of special age and different cultures. The first three Chapters were written through reading datum both home and abroad, and paved the way for following intrinsic investigations. Then , both methods of involved and noninvolved were introduced. observation : is undertaken in utterly natural circumstances without known by the observed people, so the behavior real and natural. Inquiry:It's merit is substantial materials could be gain in a short period of time,so as to make quantitive analysis. The characteristic of the study:Systematically and overall: As the first doctoral dissertation on environment and behavior, the thesis deals with the interaction between the human behavior and space systematically and intenssively.Academically and practically:the dissertation circles with architectural design closely: The example was from the architectural space and go back to the space. The dissertation is much theoraticle but easy to understand: say common words and cite daily examples. With some on-the-spot investigations of the cities and buildings been done, the dissertation studied the relationship between the spaces and the behaviors of the people. From the point of human behaviour and space cognition, the paper put forward the existing problems and some measures to resolve them. The dissertation finally points out We should take human behaviour as the basis and starting point for design. We hould base on behaviour, design function insteadn of only satisfying function. The road that contemporary architecture should take is to create spacial environment that adapted to human behaviour.
