Focused on the standard design of China Pressurized Water Reactor with 1000MW class (CPR1000), researches on its'adaptability to the wide range of soil conditions as well as SSI-related issues in engineering practices are conducted by using the boundary-element substructure approach for modeling the functions of soil. For some typical sites with the soil medium with high stiffness, the characteristics of SSI effects and the effects of soil parameters on the seismic responses are also investigated in this paper. The studies as well as the innovative achievements conducted in this dissertation are as follows:(1) Based on the circular mat foundation of reactor building of CPR1000, the impedances for the soil mediums with different dynamic parameters are obtained by using the approximate integral representation. The adaptability of the standard seismic design of CPR1000 to the wide range of soil conditions are studied and a list of the enveloped soil parameters is also presented.(2) For some lithology sites in costal region in Guangdong, the characteristics of SSI effects and the effects of medium parameters on the seismic responses are studied, and the shear wave velocity condition in ASCE 4-86 with permission not to consider the SSI effects is discussed in this dissertation. Some new proposals for the evaluation principle and range for the sensitivity of medium parameters to the seismic responses are also raised.(3) Some SSI-related issues in CPR1000 in engineering practices are systematically studied by employing the boundary-element approach for modeling the functions of soil. The re-evaluation of seismic responses with new method and the evaluation on influence of modification of surge line piping arrangement on seismic responses are included in this issue. Some results can be used for the important reference for engineering promotion of CPR1000 type unit in China.(4) Research on selection of design basis ground motion spectra for Yangjiang NPP site as an example is implemented.
