The Research On Generative Environment Of Traditional Vernacular Settlement In Huizhou

When the human civilization enters 21st century, the great change of time and environment had brought huge impacts on traditional settlement and the background which it came from . People have already awared that the material culture of the folks settlement is a precious and unique wealth of human being, and have taken every kind of conservative means to protect it. However, the work of exploring, researching and protecting the settlement intangible heritage is just started, and has not become a common cognition in the society,. In other words, to rescue the spirit living culture which is disappearing from the folks settlement becomes the essential part to protect the cultural in traditional settlement.Traditional researches on Huizhou settlement, are usually based on village appearance, space structure, architecture form, landscape environment, and yin- yang "geomancy", etc, They mainly focus on material cultural research. This study, however, is based on theories and research findings of philosophy, social anthropology, economics, geography, etc., and started from the view of Huizhou clansmen and ancient "geomancy" theories, This study analyzed the vicissitude, culture characteristic, space, and relationship between "geomancy" and power in Huizhou settlement, and systematically revealed the cause of formation and mechanism behind the material forms of folks settlement. It explains the important function and significance during the development process.This dissertation has six chapters. The introduction part stated the research background, purpose and significance. From the historical changes of HuiZhou society stand point of view, chapter 1 re-studied the transformation of Huizhou settlement. Used history files and related research as foundation, chapter 2 summarized culture characteristics of Huizhou settlement. Chapter 3 systematically analyzed power space and main factors in the settlement based on the analysis of the Chinese traditional power structure. Chapter 4 demonstrated the spatial internality between the"geomancy" space and the power space of clan, and put forward that the spatial meaning in "geomancy" settlement is establishing the movement mechanism of the settlement in Huizhou—"order". Chapter 5 brought the conclusion to the dissertation. Through the study of Huizhou settlement, this chaper outlined the strategy to improve the settlement protection and development, and appealed for protecting the cultural varieties in settlement.
