This dissertation focuses on several subjects about analysis theories of saving energy and optimizing operation in thermal plants. The main contents and achievements can be described as follows: A principle, called the Principle of Doing Work Capacity, is raised to set up a deductive theory of thermodynamic systems in thermal plants. At the point of structure, thermodynamic systems are nets consisted of several separated energy grades; and work substances act as carriers in energy transformation. The Rankin Cycle is spread to universal thermodynamic system by means of matrix theory, and a new universal model is provided to describe thermodynamic system, which simplifies expression of thermodynamic system and relations of energy transformation. A universal theory of thermodynamic system analysis is established to unify the former ones, such as the Equivalent Enthalpy Method, and the Matrix Method, and the Cycle Function Method and so on, and to conduct several main relations between the former ones. A method is set up to determine dynamically reference values of optimum operation in thermal power plants with operating conditions changing, and a whole optimization of a unit can be divided into ones of several child systems. A diagnosis model of boiler thermal economics is set up to classify boiler thermal economics troubles effectively, and the model is more accurate and more suited to online supervision by means of choosing calculation basis currently and can be used to supervise quality of raw coal by real time method. An optimum operation model is provided to determine reference states of condenser system, which can calculate energy loss values of condenser system in variable conditions, and can be used to diagnose troubles of condenser system. A method is supplied to decide normal states of regenerative heater under variable steam conditions, and to diagnose troubles of regenerative heater; Frugal formula can be used to calculate the pipe pressure loses of extractive steams, and to diagnose problems of extractive steam pipes.
