Except for its numerous famous architecture, the attraction of Europe comes remarkably from its cities, from the harmony of the characteristics of those historical and cultural cities. Nowadays, in place of making "out-standing"designs as what their colleges are doing in China, most European architects do their best to keep their buildings stay in harmonic order with the locating city and the environment. The city of Paris is an excellent example among those cities. The First section of the thesis relates to the appearance of the argument of "architectural harmonization": through the on-site investigation about the development of the European cities after the world war, especially through the research of the history of the development of the city of Paris, common characteristics were found between the development of those European cities and what is happening in many of our Chinese cities. Among those common points, successes and failures were also found. The argument of "architectural harmonization"was what I realized from the success of the development of Paris and other historical and cultural European cities. It is also the pratice of the viewpoints of philosophy in the field of architectural design. The Second section of the thesis relates to the concept and the connotation of the argument of "architectural harmonization". Reasons are shown about how the argument of "architectural harmonization"can help architects to take well hold of 4 relationships in their works: the relationship of unity & variation, the relationship of tradition & modernization, the relationship of current situation & development, the relationship of regionalism & globalization. 8 rules are given about the control and practice of the argument of "architectural harmonization". The auther also gave out several pratical examples of his own to prove the success of the argument of "architectural harmonization". The characters of our historical and cultural cities are losing when architects display their differences among each other. Space in cities becomes more and more out-of-order. We are repeating some of the mistakes that were once happened to European cities in the old days. So it is important and necessary to encourage the pratice of "architectural harmonization".
