Study On The Pavement Design Of Urban Public Space

Now these years, with the high speed development of the construction of the urbanpublic space，the pavement design of public space has already become a very importantlink of the urban construction. And a pleasing urban public space environment willbring a large improvement to the quality of life of urban residents, which means a lot tobuilding a harmonious society. But nowadays, too many problems have come out inpavement design of urban public space. These problems brought me the series ofthoughts of designing skills of paving ground. So after the survey and analysis of thepavement design of different kinds of urban public space, the paper tried to study thedesigning skills of every aspect of pavement design, and tried to use the methodsfigured out in the process in real projects.This paper’s subject is the pavement design of urban public space, and study aboutthe designing skills from some different aspects: functions and forms, style and culture,showing the principle of humanity, the characteristic of pavement materials, theconstruction methods of permeable paving ground.About function and forms——it described several kinds of basic dimensionalorders, and choose proper dimensional orders for every different kind of urban publicspace. After that the paper discussed how to use pavement to emphasize the orders andforms. And design policy was detailed from several aspects of making the division,boundaries and some features of space more obvious.About style and culture——it studied how to create style with the color, textureand geometric configuration of pavements, and how to impose local culture with colorand culture elements.About showing the principle of humanity——it clearly described how to designevery kind of disabled facilities, which is a specific basis of design.About the pavement materials——it made a brief analysis of good pavementmaterials used in urban public space, and divided which into the following kinds: stone,wood, brick, permeable concrete, permeable bituminous concrete, permeable epoxy,metal and special materials. Then the paper tells about the features and range ofapplication of each kind of material. After that, it showed what characteristic will showwhen different kinds of materials are joined together.At last, about the construction methods of permeable paving ground——it explained what is permeable paving ground and why should we use permeable pavingground instead of impermeable paving ground in urban public space design. Then it wassummarized that four kinds of construction methods of permeable paving ground, whichare “no joint&no cushion”“no joint&permeable cushion”“permeable joint&permeable cushion” and “permeable pavement material&permeable cushion”. Afterthat it discussed different style of construction methods of every pavement materialsused in city squares, and detailed every single step of construction.
