The occurrence of geological hazards, which has caused serious economical loss, is of high frequency in the basalt platform region, Zhejiang Province. The landslide is one of the major geological hazards in this basalt platform region. The objective of present study is to discover the category, character, mechanism, and to provide disaster prevention measures for the aforesaid landslide by a comprehensive measure comprised of geological survey, in-site monitoring, physical model test and numerical simulation. The main research area includes:(1) The distribution range, eruption gyrations, strata lithologic character and palaeogeographic environment of tertiary basalt of Zhejiang is analyzed. The basalt platform is classified according to its geomorphological character, the geomorphological evolvement process of basalt platform is analyzed, and the hydrogeological condition, engineering geological condition and human activities in the basalt platform region are illustrated.(2) The fundamental character of the landslide in the basalt platform region is studied systematically. The character about temporal and spatial distribution of the landslides in the basalt platform region is analyzed, and a integrated landslide classifying system in the basalt platform region is presented. The formation conditions and influencing factors for the landslides in the basalt platform region is illustrated. Based on the above study, the identification measures for both new and old landslides are summarized.(3) The mechanism and stability analysis are carried out for typical landslides in basalt platform region. Using Xiashan landslide in Huishan basalt platform and Renwubu-Shanshan slope in Shengzhou as examples for analysis for typical landslides, systematical analysis has been conducted to obtain formation, deformation and failure mechanism, main factors for landslide stability, landslide evolution process, land stability assessment, which can be used to reveal the formation mechanism of the landslide and sets basis for choosing the appropriate measures for landslide prevention and treatment.(4) Physical model tests are done to simulate the groundwater pipe drainage system (GPDS) in the pebbly clay slopes.
