Chaos, as the core contents of nonlinear science research, have been paid great attention in recent 20 years, and many desired research results have been achieved in the study of chaotic theory and the application of chaotic engineering. In this dissertation chaos are shown to have great future in the engineering applications by the detailed analysis of its characteristics based on the research results of chaotic theory, the thorough study and experiments of its applications in the fields of measurement, communication, system characteristic analysis, optimal algorithms and so on. This dissertation includes the following chapters.Chapter one (Preface): In this chapter firstly the origin and development of chaos are reviewed, then the significance of its engineering applications and related aspects are discussed. At last the research contents and objectives of the dissertation are given.Chapter two (the basic characteristic and identification method of chaotic signal): In this chapter several definitions of chaos are given firstly, then some basic concepts involved in the chaotic study. After that the basic characteristics of chaotic signal are described systematically. The key problem in chaotic engineering, the identification of chaotic signal(chaotic test), is discussed in great detail, then on this basis, an applicable mathematical computational method, correlation identification method based on local linear predication, which is used to identify the chaotic signal in time series are introduced.Chapter three (the methods of generating chaotic signal and its applications): In this chapter firstly the mechanism that a simple kinetic system, subsection linear map system, can generate chaotic phenomena is affirmed, the characteristics of correlation function of the chaotic signal generated by this system are simulated, on this basis a simple applicable method for generating chaotic signal is given; secondly some typical circuits generating chaotic signal are designed, also use operational amplifier to design a third -order autonomous circuit with chaotic dynamics. The basic mechanism and typical structures of chaos in the application of communication are introduced systematically and a simple method is provided for generating pseudo random code signal; At last Chaotic signal is applied into the analysis of system characteristic.Chapter four (application of chaos in measurement field): In this chapter firstly the sensitivity of initial values and parameters that chaos can be used in the measurement field has been analyzed quantitatively, on this basis, the necessary conditions of chaotic system that can be used in measurement are concluded and presented; then the mechanism of measurement implemented by subsection linear map chaotic system, the coordinating relationship between chaotic output signal (characters) and the values being measured , and the precision of system measurement are further analyzed quantitatively . And a chaotic voltage measurement system using DSP is designed. Secondly a basic thought that thesensitivity of chaotic parameters can be used in measurement is presented and simulated. Its theoretical testing circuits are designed.Chapter five(the application of chaotic theory in other fields): In this chapter firstly the basic concepts and steps of Genetic Algorithm based on chaotic series are proposed, and simulation result affirms its efficiency and advantages; then the identification of periodical signal from chaotic signal and the applicable judging method of period value are also proposed, This lays the foundation for efficient separation of periodical signals from nonlinear system. At last chaos are used to generate computer graphics tentatively.Chapter six (conclusion): In this chapter the research results are concluded and further development is pointed out.
