| Objective:Understanding and exploring the medical experience of adolescents with depression disorder,acquire knowledge from the perspective of adolescents with depression about their evaluations and perspectives of the healthcare system,in order to better understand and analyze the needs of adolescents with depression disorder for family,medical,and social support systems under the context of current social,public health policies,and economic-cultural environment.This study will provide more effective and reasonable suggestions to improve mental health care practices,promote public mental health education,and develop care and support methods which are guided by the needs of adolescents.Methods:The purposive sampling method is adopted,for 12 adolescents with depression disorder hospitalized in the psychiatry department of the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University,under semi-structured depth interview,interview audio was converted to the text,the text with MAXQDA2022 software with phenomenological Colaizzi seven steps used in the qualitative analysis of interview data were key coding,induction,sorting,analysis of subject.Results:There are six themes distilled from the adolescent’s medical experience with depression disorder: Perceptions on seeking and accepting for medical service;Emotions that emerge from seeking and accepting for medical service and related factors;Access for obtaining information on mental health services;Difficulties encountered during the medical experience;Needed help and advice for hospital management system;Self-evaluation and expectations.Conclusion:1.Adolescents with depression disorder and their families have low awareness of psychological health knowledge.2.Adolescents with depression experience a range of emotions during the medical experience,including worry,fear,frustration,helplessness,sadness,anticipation,resistance,calmness,relaxation,happiness,encouragement,relief,boredom,and upset.These emotional experiences change dynamically over time,with negative experiences being more prevalent in the initial stages and positive experiences becoming more prominent later on.Factors related to emotional experiences during the medical experience include the patient’s disease status,desire for internal change and treatment motivation,perceptions of mental illness,family and social support,professional competency and treatment alliance of medical staff,and hospital environment and facilities.3.Adolescents primarily obtain disease-related information through the internet.The main difficulties encountered by adolescents with depression during the medical process include a lack of mental health care resources and poor quality of mental health care services at the countryside.4.Adolescents with depression disorder hope to improve their family relationships,receive recovery guidance,and suggest that medical staff establish good treatment relationships with patients,provide personalized management for non-suicidal self-injury behaviors,and give patients more autonomy.5.Adolescents with depression disorder have a desire to develop themselves and achieve personal values.Mental health services should emphasize psychological health promotion and prevention work,standardize the construction of professional teams,establish more comprehensive medical resources and social service systems,focus on the integrity,sociality,and totality of people in medical practice,and conduct resource-oriented mental health prevention and treatment models to help adolescents with depression achieve inner growth and development. |
