Objective:The article observes the clinical efficacy of combining muscle energy techniques with acupuncture based on the meridian sinew theory in the treatment of iliotibial band syndrome,to provide a basis for the efficacy of the treatment of iliotibial band syndrome by combining muscle energy techniques with acupuncture based on meridian sinew theory.Methods:Seventy-two cases of ITBS athletes treated at the Department of Orthopaedics of the Affiliated People’s Hospital of Fujian University of Chinese Medicine from March 15,2022 to December 1,2022 were selected and divided into a test group and a control group using computerized randomized grouping, with 36 cases in each group. The test group was treated with acupuncture combined with muscle energy technique, while the control group was treated with muscle energy technique combined with celecoxib. The acupuncture treatment based on the meridian sinew theory was carried out on the common meridian tendon lesion points of "Chengbeiji","Chengfibi interval" and "Yanglingji",with the treatment carried out once a week for 2 weeks. The muscle energy technique is recommended in "Massage and Manual Therapy for Orthopedic Conditions" to act on vastus lateralis muscle and the gluteus medius muscle once a day for 2 weeks. The article recorded and compared two groups’ NRS scores,LEFS scores, isometric contraction muscle strength of the gluteus medius and sound touch quantify measurements of the iliotibial bundle before the course of treatment and 1week after the end of treatment, and two groups’ NRS scores and LEFS scores at the 3-month follow-up after the end of the course of treatment.Results:1.The results of NRS scores showed that the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant(P > 0.05)before treatment. At 1 week after the end of the course of treatment, both groups reduced compared with the same group before treatment(P < 0.05).At the 3-month follow-up after the end of the course of treatment, both groups reduced compared with the same group before treatment and 1 week after the end of the course of treatment(P <0.05).At the same time point, the test group was significantly lower than the control group at1 week after the course of treatment(P < 0.05)and the difference between two groups at the3-month follow up after the end of the course of treatment was not statistically significant(P >0.05).2.The results of the LEFS score showed that the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant(P > 0.05)before treatment. At 1 week after the end of the course of treatment, both groups increased compared with the same group before treatment(P < 0.05).At the 3-month follow-up after the end of the course of treatment, both groups increased compared with the same group before treatment and 1 week after the end of the course of treatment(P < 0.05).The test group was higher than the control group at the same time point(P < 0.05).3.The results of isometric contraction muscle strength of the gluteus medius showed that the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant before treatment(P > 0.05).At 1 week after the end of the course of treatment, both groups were able to improve muscle strength compared with the same group before treatment(P < 0.05).However,the difference between the test and control groups at the same time point was not statistically significant(P > 0.05).4.The results of sound touch quantify measurements of the iliotibial bundle showed that the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant before treatment(P > 0.05).At 1 week after the end of the course of treatment, both groups reduced compared with the same group before treatment(P < 0.05).And the test group was lower than the control group at the same time point(P < 0.05).5.In the overall efficacy evaluation, the results of this study showed that the total clinical efficiency of the test group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P < 0.05).Conclusion:The treatment of iliotibial band syndrome based on the meridian theory of acupuncture combined with the muscle energy technique can reduce the stiffness of the iliotibial fasciculus and has a good timely effect on the reduction of pain and the recovery of lower limb function. Therefore, this treatment can facilitate the early recovery of the athlete to the original level of competition.
