Introduction:Burns may be one of the greatest trauma a person can experience, with a huge impact on both body and mind.Advances in acute burn treatment have improved post-burn survival, but also put higher demands for overcoming post-burn related complications and alleviating widespread physical limitations as well as focusing on related mental health. Objective:Exercise training after burn injury is considered an effective rehabilitation method, but the efficacy of simple aerobic training in severe burns is limited,so the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of 8 weeks of aerobic training on muscle strength, lean body mass,6 minute walking distance, upper and lower limb function, psychology and quality of life in severe burn patients. Methods:This study included 25 adult patients with severe burns,13 in the aerobic training group and 12 in the conventional treatment group. After evaluation in both groups, patients in the aerobic training group will be trained for 20 to 40 minutes per week. The training methods were treadmill, power bicycle, and aerobic exercise, and the intensity of exercise was 60%-85% of the peak heart rate(RPE grade 13-14).Upper and lower limb muscle strength, grip strength, and six-minute walking distance were measured at baseline and at 8 weeks, with self-assessment of upper and lower limb function and psychological function using a questionnaire. Results:A multivariate variance analysis after 8 weeks of intervention showed that the main effects of physical muscle strength, lean body mass,6-minute walking distance, and upper and lower limb function were significant(P <0.05),and psychological and Qo L scores(P <0.05).Among them, muscle strength, lean body mass,6 minutes walking distance, lower limb function and group interaction is obvious(P <0.05),further simple analysis found over time aerobic training combined with conventional therapy in the body muscle strength, six minutes walking distance and lower limb function score improved more, has a difference between groups(P <0.05).Although the group effect was not significant in the two groups before and after the intervention(P> 0.05),the general life ability and body image of the two groups improved over time in different subfields, and the group effect was significant, and the emotion improved in the aerobic training group(P <0.05).Conclusions:In short,an 8-week aerobic training program can significantly improve the upper and lower limb muscle strength, grip strength,six-minute walking ability and upper and lower limb function ability of burn patients, and can also alleviate psychological problems after burns to a certain extent and improve the quality of life. Therefore, aerobic training is a simple and effective form of exercise that is beneficial to the body and mind of people with severe burns. |
