Objective:The sequelae such as scar and dysfunction left after burn in children have a long-term and far-reaching impact on muscle function,cardiopulmonary function and mental health.Exercise rehabilitation training can significantly improve the physical and life quality of burned children.This paper was to investigate the effects of 12-week elastic band exercise training on grip strength,muscle strength,lean body mass(LBM),6-minute walking distance(6MWD)and quality of life in children with burns.Methods:A prospective controlled study was conducted in this study.Subjects were selected from the pediatric patients of the Burns Department of the Third Hospital of Wuhan,Hubei Province from October 2021 to August 2022.Children aged 5-12 with burns greater than 20%or third-degree burns greater than 5% were included;Children with amputation or quadriplegia,hypoxic brain injury,fracture,and psychological or severe cognitive behavioral impairment were excluded.Children with burns were randomly divided into intervention group and control group.The children in the intervention group(n=9)received standard burn treatment in hospital,and received elastic band exercise training 3-5 times a week for 20 to 40 minutes each time for 12 weeks after discharge.Children in the control group(n=10)received standard burn treatment in hospital,and were encouraged to do daily activities after discharge.Muscle strength,LBM and 6MWD were measured at the time of discharge and 12 weeks after discharge,and quality of life was assessed by PTSD and life satisfaction questionnaire.SPSS 23.0 software was used for statistical analysis.p < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant.Results:1.After 12 weeks,the grip strength,muscle strength,LBM and 6MWD were all significant improved(p < 0.05),but the PTSD and life satisfaction score was not improved(p > 0.05).2.After 12 weeks,compared with the control group,grip strength,muscle strength,LBM,the 6 MWD in the intervention group were significantly improved(p < 0.05),but the PTSD and life satisfaction score was not significantly improved(p > 0.05).Conclusions:12-week exercise training with elastic band can effectively improve the grip strength,muscle strength,LBM,6MWD,and enhance the cardiopulmonary function and muscle function of children with severe burn.This exercise method is suitable for family rehabilitation of children with burns after discharge,and has certain guiding significance for the rehabilitation of children with burns. |
