Objective:Menstrual migraine is a common form of female migraine that causes great harm to those patients afflicted, yet there have been few reports of menstrual migraine patient’s quality of life. The study reported here aimed to assess the quality of life and identify its associated factors among menstrual migraine patients to provide a reference for the clinical disposition. Methods:According to the diagnostic criteria of the International Classification of Headache Disorder, third edition(ICHD-3),506 female migraine patients, including 109 patients with menstrual migraine and 397 patients with non-menstrual migraine, who attended the outpatient clinic of the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College from February 2019 to August 2020 were selected for the study. The general and clinical data of the patients were collected, meantime, patients were assessed using Short-Form 36 Health Survey(SF-36),Visual Analogue Scale(VAS),Hamilton Anxiety Scale-14(HAMA),Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD),The 6-item Headache Impact Test(HIT-6),Perceived Social Support Scale(PSSS)and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI).Correlation analysis and multiple linear step-wise regression analysis were performed to obtain the independent predictors associated with quality of life in patients with menstrual migraine.Results:(1)The scores of VAS,HIT-6,HAMA,HAMD and PSQI in patients with menstrual migraine were higher than those in patients with non-menstrual migraine(P<0.05).(2)Patients with menstrual migraine had significantly lower scores of physical functioning, role physical, bodily pain, general health, social functioning, mental health,Physical Component Summary(PCS),Mental Component Summary(MCS)and SF-36 than patients with non-menstrual migraine(P<0.05).(3)Correlation analysis showed that headache frequency,HIT-6,HAMD,HAMA and PSQI scores were negatively correlated with PCS and SF-36 scores in patients with menstrual migraine(P<0.05),HAMD,HAMA and PSQI scores were negatively correlated with MCS(P<0.05),while PSSS scores were positively correlated with PCS,MCS and SF-36 scores(P<0.05).(4)Multiple linear step-wise regression showed that frequent headaches, higher HIT-6 and HAMD scores were strongly associated with worse PCS scores, while higher HAMD and lower PSSS scores were independent risk predictors of worse MCS scores. Conclusion:Menstrual migraine patients had significantly poorer quality of life in physical functioning, role physical, bodily pain, general health, social functioning, mental health than non-menstrual migraine patients.Headache frequency, the impact of headache on daily life and depressive symptoms were proved to be the independent predictors of PCS,while depressive symptoms and social support were the independent predictors of MCS.Improving mental complications such as anxiety and depression and strengthening social support may be beneficial in improving quality of life of menstrual migraine patients.
