Authority,as a kind of social relationship, exists extensively in various social organizations and activities, and it is also one of the conditions for the normal operation of various social institutions.Teachers need authority, and this is the inherent requirement of educational order and educational effectiveness. However,in the actual education scene, the voice of educational democracy and the independent value of students continues to impact on the status of traditional teachers.Teacher's authority refers to the force that makes students voluntarily believe in their teachers, and is the result of many internal and external factors, including the provisions of the external system and the teacher's ability. This study starts from the student's authoritative target.Six hundred middle school students were included in a questionnaire survey to clarify the current student recognition of teacher authority.Based on the status quo of the sample survey,we conducted informal interviews with the two sides of the authoritative relationship—teachers and students—in a mixed-research model.Teachers and students were asked to explain their opinions on authority and autonomy in order to examine the relationship between teachers and students. The study found that although students generally recognize the authority of teachers, their degree of compliance with teachers and their willingness to actively coordinate with teachers is not based on the power of teachers' professional status, but also whether teachers' legitimacy is worthy of the status of “teacher”.However, teachers are often subject to the pressures of education management. In order to increase the efficiency of management methods, there are“mistakes” and excessive reliance on their authority to control students, resulting in students' sense of their rights being violated. For teachers, students have the problem of immaturity.Teachers can prevent students from making childish or even wrong actions only by strictly managing students. However, for students, teachers have the right to regulate and supervise students, but if the teacher's discipline denies them their independence,it equates to a form of oppression from teachers.Teacher authority is a product of the teacher-student interaction.Whether teachers or students have certain rights in this authoritative relationship, teachers have the right to “be a teacher” and students have the right be treated humanely.Only when the rights of teachers and the rights of students reach a state of balance, can a working relationship between the authority of teachers and the autonomy of students be achieved. The legitimacy of teacher authority comes from the regulations of the system and student's recognition. Therefore,it is necessary to clarify the rules of the system and strengthen teachers' legitimacy.Teachers' teaching rights are also clarified, and concrete measures are implemented at the institutional level for teachers to teach students,so that teachers can legally manage students, ensuring that teachers' duties and powers operate reasonably without infringing upon students' rights. In order to continuously strengthen teachers' own qualities, teachers can respect their students and aim to win students over with their positive conduct and understanding.
