Objective The effect of serum superoxide dismutase on short-term prognosis after ischemic stroke is unknown, the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between serum sod level and short-term prognosis in patients with ischemic stroke. Methods In this study,511 inpatients with ischemic stroke in the department of neurology of the first affiliated hospital of Bengbu medical college from July 2018 to November 2019 were selected,Demographic and clinically-relevant data during hospitalization were collected by professionally trained investigators, including age, sex, lifestyle, past medical history, basic admission examinations, blood tests, etc. At the time of discharge, corresponding functional measurements were made, including cognitive function, balance function and daily life activity function. The relationship between serum superoxide dismutase and short-term prognosis was analyzed by means of univariate analysis, binary Logistic regression analysis, multiple Logistic regression analysis, spearman rank correlation coefficient analysis.Results(1)The serum superoxide dismutase level within 48 hours of admission was independently correlated with the cognitive function at discharge. The serum superoxide dismutase level of >166KU/L was used as the reference group, after adjusting for potential confounders, the discharged patients with serum superoxide dismutase value <134KU/L,134KU/L-151KU/L,and 152KU/L-166KU/L had 1-11 times higher risk of abnormal cognitive function than the control group.(2)The relationship between serum sod level and cognitive function of patients with cerebral infarction is different in patients over 66 years old and patients under 66 years old.Among patients younger than 66 years of age, those with the lowest serum sod level in the quartile had 5.2 times the risk of cognitive impairment as those with the highest serum sod level in the quartile.Among patients over 66 years of age, those with the lowest serum sod level in the quartile had 36.5 times the risk of cognitive impairment as those with the highest serum sod level in the quartile.(3)The level of serum superoxide dismutase in patients with ischemic stroke was positively correlated with the total score of the Montreal scale(r=0.369,P < 0.001).The scores in each field of the scale were positively correlated with the level of serum superoxide dismutase, and the field of "delayed recall",which was used to measure short-term memory ability, had the strongest correlation with the level of serum superoxide dismutase, with a correlation coefficient of 0.292.Conclusion The level of serum superoxide dismutase in patients with ischemic stroke was independently correlated with the occurrence of cognitive impairment.Among them, the relationship between serum superoxide dismutase and cognitive function was different in different age groups.compared with patients younger than 66 years of age, patients older than 66 years of age were at greater risk for cognitive impairment due to low levels of superoxide dismutase. At the same time, scores in various fields of Montreal scale were positively correlated with serum sod level, among which the field of "delayed recall",which measured short-term memory ability of patients, was the most correlated with serum superoxide dismutase level.
